I was about to order the Grace screwdriver set from Cabela's when I started to wonder if these are suitable for BP revolvers (58 Remington and 51 Colt Navy), or just modern firearms. So I thought I'd ask.

No reason they wouldn't be.
A screwdriver can't tell a black powder gun from any other gun.
There should be someing in the set that fits your screws.

I might suggest though, a gunsmith set with interchangable bits.

Then if one gets damaged or worn, you can replace just the bit you need to replace.

The Chapman set is very hard to beat for the money.

Replacement blades are like .99 cents or something direct from Chapman.

There is also this Colt SAA specific set from Brownell's.
They would be the correct ones for your BP revolvers also.

Brownells 080-000-086 Colt SAA Screwdriver Bits, I have a couple sets of those.

The HG-3 Colt Screw Driver Set 354-000-001 has 3 wooden handled screw drivers that are great for the range. They're made by Grace and have a belt hoslter.

MAGNA-TIP SET NO. 3 - 080-103-084 is a good set for the older Piettas and some others like FIE and ASP.

I've got a couple other sets that I have acquired over the years but the above sets seem to work better on the replicas and original Colts.. Each bit is numbered which makes replacements a bit easier.

If all else fails, the Walmart little Orange Box Set DAC Gun Master Set (El Cheapo) always has one bit that seems to fit everything. :banghead:

The Wheeler bits (Midway) are cheap and made in the USA. You need to match width and thickness to the slot in the screw. Damaged screw slots can be repaired with a screw slot file available from Brownells. I have about thirty or more bits to cover every firearm I own. Some have to be ground to fit some of the odd balls like a LeMatt.

Thanks fellows for the info. I think I'll probably go with the Chapman set.
The reason I had some concerns before is, I ordered a set of what was suppose to be gunsmith screwdrivers about a month ago and they turned out to be just regular screwdrivers but I kept them because I can use them elsewhere. Anyway I hope I don't get shafted again......don't need anymore regular ones.:(
