My First Two

I guess I'm committed now. These two revolvers represent my entry into the BP world. The Colt 1860 Army arrived earlier in the week; and the 1858 Remington New Army was delivered yesterday. Both were manufactured by Pietta; and ordered from Cabela's.

Not having fired either one, I don't have a favorite, yet. I am initially impressed with the fit, finish, and action of both, though. The bluing is similar on both; but the markings from the case hardening are more prevalent on the Remington. The checkered grips of the Remington feel good in the hand.

The wedge of the Colt did not exhibit any of the balkiness that some people have experienced with the Pietta guns. Two light taps with a rawhide hammer was all it took to remove it.

I couldn't pass up Cabelas sale, got one of the Pietta Remingtons. The gun counter guy let me cherry pick their stock. First thing I did when I got home was strip it to the frame. I did find a few burrs, which did not prevent function. A few strokes of the file (not recommended unless you really know what you are doing) and everything worked slick. Just got back from the range. No issues at all re function. It shoots reasonable well although a bit low left. Hope you have as good luck as I with the Rem. There are a few minor quirks, but all in all I really like it.

O K I am a little jealous since I missed out on the Cabelas sale. I was going to order the Remmie but due to Michigan law I didn't have the correct paperwork on file with the Cabelas gun dept. So I will have to wait till the next big sale. You fellas enjoy yours and I will just pretend.... LOL

I'm a Remington fan from way back, but that is a particularly fine specimen of 1860 you have there. Congrats on both!
