Impressed with the Springfield P9!

I picked up my second Springfield P9 this week. It is just a standard 9mm early (1989) new in the box P9 9mm. I was very very impressed at how tight the fitting of the barrel is to the slide. It rivals the fitting of my SIG 210's. The trigger is a bit rough, but the gun was basically dry from sitting that many years. I have not fired it at the range, but will give a report on in one of these days.

My older P9 Ultra just pasted 6500 rnds fired this week. It is a Long Slide Ported 40 S&W that is doing quite well. The trigger really broke in nicely and has a very smooth double action stroke. The gun was handling 40 loads in the 980 fps range with 180 fmj's like no problem. So far the gun has only broken one slide stop back in the first 500 rnds or so. I had briley fit a new barrel in it to make it more accurate but that was a more cosmetic improvement. I had sort of cooked the factory barrel with 135 grn screamers before I found the 10mm. This gun really really likes the 155 grn Winchester FMJ's when I can find them. Very accurate with nearly any powder.

Well to sum it up. To bad Springfield does not still make the P9. They are and were sure fine guns!

I will shoot some new pictures of both together but currently it is "wrapped" (the new one) for a day or so.

The upper one is a 97b I have and the lower is the P9 Ultra with the briley barrel installed.

They look a tad like the CZ 75 and Tanfoglio Witness. I have a polycoat CZ 75B and wish the finish was as nice as these SA P9s:banghead:

Nice pistols!

I did order 3 more normal (16 rnd) capacity mags today. I will order 3 more from another dealer when I get a reply. I want to have at least 7 normal capacity mags for the gun. I hate loading mags, so I get a lot of them and then load at home!

Congrats on the P9! I always liked them, and regret not buying one years ago.

While not a 'Real Deal' CZ. They are an interesting copy.
I can remember seeing them for low prices years ago.
The Compact model was very nice.

The frame and slides are made by Tanfoglio and assembled in the states by SA. A very nice clone of a of the nicer Ive seen. The one store in UT that has a couple of very clean used ones...thinks they are worth WWAAYY to Ill be sticking with CZ's for now.

The CZForum has a clone club that has LOTS of resources for these gun.

Shoot well.................

Springfield really did make some nice P-9's and they did use parts made by Tanfoglio. It is a shame that Springfield dropped the P-9, but I guess they felt that they could not compete with EAA and their rather inexpensive pistols. Why pay more when the cheaper one looks just like the expensive one? Of course, quality does cost and you usually get what you pay for.

I agree. I have a witness 10mm and there is NO WAY it is anywhere as tightly fitted as my P9 ultra or the P9. They are really different guns for different purposes, the P9 is a high quality target gun that could serve on duty in my opinion. The witness is a reliablity piece that was good enough.

I will shoot some pictures of my cz and its friends in the next day or so.

Take care and keep shooting.
