Returning to my hobby

Well 2010 has been bad for many but one good thing was, I returned to my gun hobby. I sold almost all my collection of 25 guns about 15 yrs. ago. I`m finding that was a big mistake because many of the guns I had are much more expensive now and many I had, I`d like to have again, I guess when you make good choices, things don`t change much, as time goes by. Many of the Smiths and Colts I had purchased for $200/$300 years back are $1000 or more now, who would have thunk. Well now I`ll have to be much more selective than in the past, guns are getting very expensive and actually shooting them is worse
I`m prowling around looking for a Colt detective or something close that's interesting.
Has anyone out there done the same dumb thing, like selling their guns.

I never really sold off my accumulation regardless of what my wife wants. (She only sees $$; I see fun.) But I did go for about a 10 year dry spell where the only purchases made were very purposeful... like I want a small light carry gun or a heavy revolver for hunting.... There were no ... that looks cool... think I'll buy it and try it out like I used to. That changed again, but, this year has been the first year since 2002 that I did not add to the accumulation. Honestly, I don't "need" any new guns, but there will be more in the future. I need to concentrate on shooting them rather than acquiring them.
Glad to hear you are getting back into the hobby. As you said, I think you made a big mistake selling off your accumulation too early. The Colt Detective Special would be a great starting point and one that takes you home.

three guns I really should not have sold;
1.colt mustang .380 (somebody showed me a dumptruck full of $$)
2. S&W 686 .357 (thought I outgrew wheelguns)
3. marlin .357 lever carbine (why keep this without the wheelgun)
pretty stupid huh? :banghead:

I've only sold two guns and have regretted ever since. It's almost sad to be looking at guns as an investment but that's what they become.

Many of us spend an entire lifetime buying guns for whatever reason. As Larry said above, eventually most of them become "investments". My plan is to start selling off my toys after I reach my 70th birthday. If I am pleagued with poor health, I'd probably start in my mid-60's or about the life expectancy. I don't see much use in dying with a bunch of guns only to have them show up in some pawn shop. Most kids today that I know only see $$ when they look at nice guns. Tis a pity.
Definitely time to get back into the saddle.

I'm in the same boat as far as geting back into my guns.I bought another motorcycle a few years back and have spent most of my free time and money riding,only going to the pistol range a half dozen times and the rifle range 2 or 3 times this past year.But this year the bike will get more of a rest and the guns will be getting a good workout.
