OK, OK, I know that this is going to raise the "taurus bashing" armada but I'd like to know if anyone has experience with the new Taurus Slim 40SW. I'm looking for a subcompact 40SW to use in summer (I carry an XD40SC when clothing is appropriate). I'm also looking at the Kahr. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many single stack sub compact 40SW out there - i am open to other suggestions. I don't need advice on 9mm - I want to stay with the 40SW.

If you have any actual experience with the Slim 9mm or Slim 40SW I'd like your thoughts.

Thank you

I have a PT-709 9mm. Well over a thousand rounds of all types of FMJ and JHP through it without significant issue. The SLIMs need to be kept squeaky clean, and you need to fully function test whatever particular cartridge you plan to use. But mine has been fine since day one, and is my daily carry (at least until I get comfortable with my new PT-145!).

I carry the Kahr PM40 and love it. It is very reliable and accurate, it doesn't need to be kept squeaky clean.

I signed up to the forum to replay to this thread. So this is my first post.

I like my PT709. All my other pistols at the time I bought the PT709 were in .40 S&W, and I wasn't thrilled with the idea of buying a pistol in a different caliber, but after carrying the gun for about 8 months, I'm glad I did.

The PT709 isn't anything to brag about or put in a showcase, but it does it's job and it does it well. The only two complaints I have is the grip is a little small for my hand, so my hand slides down the grip when I'm firing rapidly. Secondly, the magazine release button rusts! I don't know why, but I have to clean the rust off it regularly. An extended magazine would probably alleviate the first problem. I live in Arizona and can get pretty sweaty during the summer, since I carry this IWB, I went with the stainless slide. The biggest upside to carrying the 709 is the comfort. I can sit in the office and work a full shift at my desk without the 709 digging into my side or getting uncomfortable.

If memory serves I picked up this pistol new in the box with 2 magazines for a little over $300 from gun broker. I carry it in a Mr.Softy IWB Holster from High Noon (http://www.highnoonholsters.com/Product_Line/_Mr_Softy/_mr_softy.html).

I have a 740 Slim. I also have a 709 Slim. Right now, the 709 is my EDC. I am breaking in the 740 (200 rounds through it so far). I have had 0 FTE or FTF with the 740. No need to use the double strike either. GREAT gun and can't wait to carry it. The recoil is quite a bit more than the 709, but is expected.
