Since I gave my Taurus blued model 605 to my oldest son for part of his Christmas, I 'm in the market for a new stainless snub. My dealer that I do most of my buying from has a NIB model 60 and can get me a model 605. I think the price difference is around $100 or close to that. Do you really think that the S&W 60 is that much better of a gun?, or would you go for the Taurus. The blued one I had was really a pretty nice gun.

I would say if your last taurus pleased you go for it and spend the extra on ammo and holster and some speed strips. Just out of curiousity how many rounds did your last taurus have and did you have any problems out of it?

I've never owned a Taurus so I can't comment on that but I do have a Model 60 that alternates with my Glock 19 for concealed carry duties. I really like it. Small but chambered in .357, I carry this gun when I can't carry anthing bigger. If I could do it again, however, I would probably get the 640 with the concealed hammer instead.

Have owned both. I prefer the S&W 60. Like the action of the Smith, and I can tune them better. Around here a used Smith will bring about $100.00 more than a similar Taurus. Something to consider if you sell it in the future. Good used ones are out there. The last "used" 60 that I bought was unfired, with original box and papers. Paid $300.00 for it.

My father has a model 85 Taurus that he uses for concealed carry. Good gun, for the price. I'm one of the proverbial penny pinchers so I, personally would go for the Taurus. But I also realize I won't get S&W level performance for the price you pay for a Taurus. Do you want a better gun? The S&W would suit you then. But you'll pay for it.

Thanks to everyone who replied. The 605 that I had seemed to be a pretty good gun. I only put a couple of hundred rnds thru it, so I really can't give it a real good evaluation. My son was very happy with his Christmas present thou. I'll have to go back and look at the 60 later this week and make a decision. Thanks again, and I welcome more input.
