XD9 hard to cock

I have two XD9's I purchased new about two years ago. Although it is not that hard for me to cock them it is impossible for my wife to chamber a round in. I guess my question is, can a weaker spring be installed without creating lag or jamming? You can answer this on the forum or email me at; xtrukrangler67@yahoo.com

Thanks for any help on this.

A lighter spring, enough to matter will cause battering and excess wear to the gun.

Racking the slide on any auto is all about technique.

The link above has good info about that.
But in general, have your wife hold the gun in her left hand, arm extended, with thumb on one side of the slide, and four fingers on the other.
Then rotate the gun to the left until her elbow & wrest are stright and comfortable.
And then push foreword on the grip (finger off the trigger!) with her right hand.
When it hits bottom, let go of the slide.

Pushing against the weak left hand and arm, not pulling is far easier!

No offense intended with this post!

I believe that the biggest obstacle is for the female to actually want to rack the slide.

My wife cannot rack the slide on my SA Champion .45.

My 12 y/o daughter can.

My wife does not like guns.

My daughter does.

I believe that the biggest obstacle is for the female to actually want to rack the slide.

I think girls in our culture tend to be raised to approach difficult things as impossible things and boys raised to approach difficult things as challenges to be conquered (thankfully the former is changing but the latter is also unfortunately changing).

With my wife once I explained to her that she hasn't got the slightest chance of breaking the gun she was able to rack a slide better.

One side note, women with very long fingernails will have more problem racking the slide since they can't get quite as strong a grip on the pistol (due to the angle of her fingers) ... but using the cornered cat's technique an older lady in my CCW class years ago with long fake nails was capable of racking the slide on her Glock just fine (and she was convinced she'd need to get rid of the Glock and buy a revolver when she started the class).

Also on a pistol with an exposed hammer you can cock the hammer first and that will make it easier to rack the slide (doesn't help with the OP's XD, but might make it easier for Jamie's wife and his Champion)
