Carry rig pics and reviews

December 30, 2010, 10:58 PM
I have looked around for a decent, non gun specific, holster thread w/o success. I thought it would be nice to perhaps have a thread with individual reviews and detailed pics of field and concealed carry rigs available, including a link to the site of the manufacturer. It might make it easier on folks doing holster research if it were made a sticky.

I carry appendix-inside-the-waistband everyday, every season, same way.
I've been through a few pistols and holsters trying to reach carry Nirvana :)
I settled on a Kahr K9 in a Don Hume H715MWCS ( I don't have either yet, the pistol is on lay-away and the holster on order to be had very soon.....
But here is a pic of a similar setup I used to have. Kahr P9 in a Don Hume 715 w/thumb break

For 1911 pistols, I like a couple from Tucker Gunleather. (

The "Cover Up" is an IWB with a single kydex belt clip. The rest is leather. I had mine made with the rough side out to help keep it in place with just the single clip. It is great if you need to remove your CCW for various reasons throughout the day because it is very easy on and off.

The "Texas Heritage" is an all leather holster similar to the Crossbreed Supertuck in that it has two widely spaced belt hooks. I ordered this one smooth side out with kydex j hooks. It has no extra reinforcement around the holster mouth to maintain a very thin profile. I do not have any trouble reholstering. If you need to wear it all day, it is a little more comfortable than the Cover Up.

Crossbreed Supertuck
Pros - Very stable, comfortable, distributes weight well, thin, easy to reholster, hammer shield
Cons - kydex is a little less comfy than all leather, doesn't flex to your body quite as easily, not as easy to put on without undoing your belt.

Crossbreed QwikClip

Pros - smaller than a Supertuck, hammer shield, easier to get on/off, comfy, easy to reholster
Cons - little bit more movement than a double belt clip holster, less comfy than all leather

Crossbreed Minituck
Pros -very small and lightweight, good size for pocket pistols, easy to reholster since kydex keeps its shape
Cons - not all leather if that matters to you

Mitch Rosen
Pros - small size overall size, retains shape at the mouth for easy reholstering
Cons - not tuckable, little pricey, no hammer shield, bit bulky

Blackhawk Serpa
Pros - retention device
Cons - hard to get off/on even though it's a paddle style, not as stable due to paddle

DeSantis OWB
Pros - OWB if that's what you need, easy on/off with belt loop snap, thumb break for retention (good since the pistol is small, I don't normally like them for CCW)
Cons - none if you like OWB

Walther PPS with a Comp-Tac Minotaur holster and a Ruger LCP with a Recluse holster. I also have a Comp-Tac Infidel holster for the PPS.

Boy I was hoping to see this thread take off a bit more.

MikePain, I use that same holster when I carry a CW9. It is very comfortable with that pistol.

When I was picking up the K9 the shop had a brand of holsters, hand made in Paraguay, called was only $24 so I grabbed one for the pistol.
The leather and craftsmanship seemed very good for the price, its made for the Kahr K/P/CW line and the fit was perfect.
I wore all day and was very comfortable, its already softening up and fitting better. But something had to give for $24..right? The clip was a POS and lost tension already  I thought about retuning it but remembered I have an extra clip from a DeSantis Stealth I don't carry but use in the nightstand. Took some elbow grease to get though, but once in it was a nice fit. I have a few more weeks to wait on the Don Hume so we'll see how it goes between now and then with this one.
To anyone considering a Tagua (, know that the leather is good but the clips are total crap.
with the DeSantis clip

Crossbreed Supertuck and Minituck for IWB. Nothing else conceals as well and still allow practical draw times and comfort.

Raven Concealment rules the OWB and mag holder market IMO.

My main goto holster for CC is the:

Crossbreed supertuck (w/G27):
Pros: excellent concealment, comfort, quality, retention
cons: difficult presentation whilst seated in a car

yes, my pants are hideous...:neener:

Custom leather OWB pancake that I made:

Used mainly for range duty or CC in cold weather & extended car trips (more comfortable as OWB)

Pros: comfort, ease of draw, retention, I know all the quality materiels I used, I made it
Cons:less easy to conceal than IWB

I wear a Archangel AIWB holster made by Dale Fricke somewhere between 1:00 -2:00 o'clock. I have two, one for my CBOB and one for my Glock 17 or 26. Also wear A&G Gun Leather 1.25" belts. I have 3 of them.

Pros: Made with Kydex so holster is very thin (no bulk). Very quick access to gun. Can see when I'm printing and make adjustments accordingly. Uses 2 widely spaced Pull-the-Dot snaps for very secure yet slightly adjustable carry. Easier to defend against gun grab being that the holster is on the front of my body. Much easier to draw weapon while on the ground. And biggest advantage for me is quick access to gun while seated in a vehicle.

Cons: Only one I can think of is it's made out of Kydex, so some people consider that a comfort issue.

I use a Kholster IWB holster. It cost me $50 and it is SUPER comfortable. I carry a Ruger Sp-101 in it all the time and I often forget it is there.

If you are interested go to and check them out. The shipping was very fast and the warranty is amazing.

Also, if you do order one in the special instructions put in 11-7150 and you get 10% off ($40 for the holster) and I'll get 25% on my next purchase! Really good deal if you have many guns, which I intend to always buy more!

***** IF you decide to use my rebate, please just send me a PM on here. It would be much appreciated *****

-Comfortable (distributes weight very well, even with my cheap-o belt)
-Adjustable Cant (angle it sits on hip) and depth (raise or lower it's height)
-Tuckable (You can tuck your shirt in with it on)
-Warranty (You can exchange it if it ever breaks any time NO EXCUSES and even if you cut the leather to fit better it does not void the warranty!)
-Customer Service, they are great people who make an affordable product at 1/2 the cost of the competition (Crossbreed Super-Tuck is $85+)

-She aint much to look at, but who cares it's IWB and super comfortable.

Here's some pics, sorry I am not much of a model!

(Yes, the hammer is back but I just took a picture for another post and it is unloaded)
