Lawman is training ammunition that was developed as an inexpensive way to simulate Speer's real defensive handgun ammunition. Here's a link.Speer Lawman (http://le.atk.com/Interior.asp?section=2&page=pages/ccispeer/ccispeer_Home.asp)

Depatments usually send thousands of rounds a year downrange. The Lawmens cost less than if you were to use the pricier GoldDots for training, though, the GoldDots are what is carried on the street.

As far as primers go, I've found the CCI's to be alot more sensitive than Winchester primers. If one has problems with the CCI's there are others that you'll have problems with, also.

FWIW-The Lawman and the GoldDots utilize the same primers. I have the LE data sheets for the Golddots.

Would the lawmen be a good self defence bullet?? Also after reading the speer website it says lawmen rounds have brass casings but the two new boxes I picked up has silver casings:confused:

how odd...i've always been told, by gunsmiths who had done trigger/action work for me, that the CCI primers were the hardest to ignite...and winchester was the easiest (it's what we used in competition)

things must have changed over at speer. lawman ammo used to encompass their premium line and the blazer was their practice ammo. i used to always carry speer lawman's .45 acp loading using the 200gr flying ashtray

The Speer Lawman .38 Special I am familiar with (and have shot up a lot of in various .38 and .357 revolvers with nary a problem) has a 158-grain TMJ (Total Metal Jacket) bullet; the 9mm Luger, .40 S&W and .45 Auto Lawman also uses TMJ bullets. This would not make a good self-defense bullet, unless you can get your assailants to line up one behind the other. Then you could shoot the one in front and the bullet would go through the others. ;) It is intended as a lower cost training round which duplicates the recoil and point of impact of a hollowpoint loading, but is less costly. The silver coloring on the cases, if it has a bright appearance, might be nickel plating over the brass, or if it is a dull grayish silver, it might be aluminum-cased Blazer (which is also very good practice ammo).

When CCI/Speer first started producing loaded ammunition in the mid 1970s it was all called Lawman and came in very nice reusable yellow plastic boxs.

While doing some stalking(research) I came across this statement.-

Remember Speer reclassifies ammo for many different reasons, has packaged and marked it many different ways, and has been doing if for yrs, long before the primer problem that got big exposure. Only Speer really knows why your particular lot/package was reclassified (if it was) or what it will do?

I was not aware there was even a problem. Perhaps this is what mastinson was referring to.
