Any and all assistance is kindly requested please.

I am going to have to purchase a new vehicle soon for the transport of myself and my guns. I am planning on getting a full size van with a raised roof with extensive custom work done. Since it is a van with no trunk to store the guns in I was planning on having.

A) Horizontal gun safe affixed to the floor ( welded and/or bolted ) on the drivers side running lengthwise in the van

B) Covered by a wooden frame bunk that is 7 feet long so that the safe is not visible

C) LoJack Security System

D) OnStar or the equivalent

I have received conflincting advice about whether to have windows in the van. One viewpoint holds that it is best to look like a work van to not attract thieves another is that it is better to look like a conversion van to not attract thieves.

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions please would be appreciated.

Seems to me that a work van would be more attractive to thieves since a work van would most likely have easy-to-pawn tools in them as opposed to a conversion van that likely wouldn't have a whole lot of stuff readily convertible to cash (as long as you don't have TV's, expensive sound systems, etc., readily visible through those windows). Reason I say this is because I belong to a couple of construction forums and it is surprising the number of craftsmen who have their work vehicles broken into and their tools (source of livelihood) stolen.

Put windows in it. They allow you to see out.

Thanks for bringing up the topic. I'm getting a new pickup on Monday, and need same kind of advice. What's best way to do this in a pickup?

I think somebody makes a sort of locker that fits in bed behind rear wheels, but don't remember manufacturer. I guess it would require cap or tonneau (neither of which are in the budget now.)

Any good ideas for secure transport in cab? It's a Chevy 1500 extended cab, 4 door.

Thanks!
