Good morning all,

I will be going to the Del Mar gun show here soon ,looking at ,I hope,some S&W 29's and 629's.What should I know about the dash number after the model number,what is a pinned barrel vs a ? barrel,the good ,the bad,how big a deal is it that it has a fireing pin on the hammer vs not on the hammer,any anything else that you might think that is important.Someone here on this forum was kind enough to send me the revolver examine blurp,so I understand what to look for there.I'm a machinist and understand fit and function,I'm just a little more familiar with autos.I'd love to hear any ,and all comments that will help me choose a nice 6"-8" classic.

Pinned barrels are just that --pinned--to prevent rotational movement of the barrel--
Recessed (Magnums only)means that the cylinder is longer and the case heads are recessed into the cylinder itself for additional head support--

Neither is required for and with modern metals but one often prefers the slightly stronger design and/or the nostalgia of the earlier weapons--Pre '83 or so--
and the frame mounted firing pin is '95 I believe--
I won't comment on that except to say I prefer the Hammer mounted--

P&R guns are worth--(Collector wise) a few bucks more than their newer brethern--
