i have been looking for a nice affordable ankle holster for my 3 inch sp 101. i looked at all the usual places online and they don't carry ones i like. i don't care if they are synthetic or leather as long as they are not too expensive, nothing over 25 dollars. any suggestions?

i would suggest saving a little longer so you can spend more than $25. that will only get you flimsy elastic. not so good for securing anything, let alone an sp101. check out Renegade ankle holsters. they are around $60 and i hear great things about them. i am thinking of getting one for my j-frame. for around $70-$80 i hear the Galco ankle glove is very good. spend a little more now if you can so you will not be dissapointed later and only have to buy once. 1 quality usable holster always beats 3 cheap ones in the drawr.

i have a nice in the pants holster and a belly band, that's why i wasn't thinking of putting up much for the ankle holster, i just want to try it out. but i'll look those guys up.

If any holster needs retention, it would be an ankle holster for a heavy gun swinging at the end of your leg with every step. I doubt you will find such a holster for $25.

I doubt you will be able to find an ankle holster that will be durable, comfortable and offer good retention within your current budget. I have used a galco ankle glove for over 15 years and it has many more years of use left in it. You can find them at online retailers discounted to the mid $60-70 range. Opticsplanet usually has good prices. So, save your cash as a $25 ankle holster probably will not work out.

Keep us posted and good luck.

Other than the cheepy elastic band gun show holsters, even the uncle mike ankle holsters will run you $35+ ( think I paid $40 for mine). Its worked well. An uncle mike's is probably the cheapest you'll find that will actually do the job. No frills.

Better put a SP on each leg or you are gonna be walking with a limp.:D

I'm not sure about the 3", but it also helps to note that the 2.25" sp101 fits in the LCR holsters very well.

But I'm with ColtPythonElite, this gun is awful heavy for ankle carry. You could find yourself limping or the gun coming loose with even mid-range holsters.

If you do get one, post some pictures or send me a PM, I've debated it for some time for the summertime (I don't own shorts and it's the best way to carry if I'm sweating like the fat-kid I am)

I had the uncle mikes sidekick for for a J-22 and it was a better holster than the gun...

Like others have said ... It will be heavy w/ a SP101. However if you are driving a car for long periods I think it is the most acessable method of carry on your body. Like anything else it is a trade-off. I think ankle carry is a great way to carry a light weight BUG.
