Hi there,

I bought myself a 7mm Steyr Mannlicher.

I must sight it in. If I sight it in at 25m, at what distance would it zero again?

Or what is the best distance to zero it in at?

I live in South Africa so will use the gun for Blesbok, Impala, Kudu, Eland, Warthog, Gemsbok etc.

Thanks

Marno

You would have to consult a ballistic table for the load(s) you will be using. My guess though is that most of the 7mm cartridges/loads if zeroed at 25 meters using a telescopic sight will be pretty close to point of aim at about 100 meters. Open sights might bring it closer at lesser distances because of the lower line of sight.

Zero at 25 then try them at 100 and see where they are going, make sight adjustments accordingly.

Depends on how high your scopes too. Mine when new was 25tard zero and Real close at 200 yard.
Don't think that 25yards will do any thing more than just get you started. I moved back to a 300 yard zero and that leaves mine 2 3/4" high at at 100 and 5 3/4" low at 400

Generally, a scope-sighted bolt-action when zeroed at 25 yards will be withing a couple of inches of center at 100 yards. For the medium cartridges (.270, .308, etc.) I sight in for two inches high at 100. That's dead-on, roughly, at 200 and around six inches low at 300.

A 7x57 would be about the same. A 7mm Rem Mag would be a little flatter, zeroing at around 225 yards and with a drop of around five inches at 300.

I do my 7mm mag 1.4" high at 100, does right on at 200, supposed to be 5" low at 300. Never put it on paper at 300, but shot several deer near that range and it seems to hold true. This is with 139 gr. Hornady bullets, factory load.

Marno,

Try this ballistics calculator: http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmtraj-5.1.cgi . You can punch in exact data for the .284 caliber you plan to use and estimate data where needed. You can break the ballistics table down to 25 yard increments.

South Africa hunting...its on my "bucket list".
