Ruger DA Six Series

I have had many different 357 mag revolvers. Smiths and Rugers. Of all of them the least expensive is a used Ruger Service Six. I bought this because I felt I needed a 4in 357 and it was 200$ less than a new gp100. I had never really given the old Rugers a second look but this one was a 161 prefix serial # with the heavy barrel. This service revolver carries and handle's (feels) great, but more importantly it has always shot great. It outshoots my 686, my sp101and more often than not my 6.5in Blackhawk. I feel that a 4in 357 is the most versatile gun to own, especially since I reload. Of all my handguns-revolvers and autos this would be the one I would choose if I could only have one. Anyone else have BIG love for the Ruger security/speed/service Sixes?

Hi,
You won't get a argument out of me. I have a Police Service Six 4 inch. I have owned it longer than any of my revolvers. This includes my S&W and my Ruger blackhawk as well as my GP100. If I only could keep one revolver I would lean heavy toward my Service Six. Mine is well used but still shoots as good as my other revolvers. Nice pictures. Here is mine.

Great sixguns! My 4" Speed Six is a keeper. Only drawback is, my wife claimed it for herself.

Ruger Security Six, .357. Six shots, 25 yards, two hands over sandbags. I can't shoot this good every day, but I'd bet the Ruger can! http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m247/matquig/DSC05793.jpg

I agree, I too have a few revolvers and the 4" Security Six has become my favorite. They're great revolvers and they're still a good buy, but the prices on them are steadly going up. Well balanced and sized just right, not to mention durability. I have the 4" Security Six and liked it so much I went on the hunt for a 2-3/4" SS. A couple of months later I found this NIB 2-3/4" with box and papers. I put the Tyler T grip on it to fill the grip out a little better.

Best DA revolvers Ruger ever made IMHO. Enough weight for manageable recoil yet small enough for concealment.

Sounds to me as if the Ruger simply fits you better than other revolvers you have tried. I feel the same way about the Colt Trooper Mark III 357 mag as compared to shooting Colt Pythons and various Smiths I have owned. Lots of folks like the old Rugers.

My four-inch Security-Six is one of the last guns I'd ever part with.

But, it is rather large - even compared to a "full-size" Glock.

I think my favorite Security Six was a blued, 4" heavy barreled model I had nearly 30 years ago. It had the nicest DA right out of the box of any Ruger revolver I ever tried.

I just picked a 4" blue Speed Six not to long ago and have been enjoying it quite a bit. I'm on the look out for a 2 3/4" now.

Three security sixes and one sp101. 2 3/4", 4" 200 year model stainless, and an original issue six inch blue. All accurate, all well built, and none for sale. Took a deer with the 2 3/4" a few years back when I had a chance....a stunt, granted, but at fifteen yards it was a slam dunk. Lyman 357446 and the book load of 2400.
