The "Obama scare" seems to be in retreat...this is what I got last summer...

I haven't posted on THR for long time....here I'm again...

The difficult political times of our Commander in Chief seems to be reflected in the declining asking prices for some particular types of firearms.....this is what I got last August....Bushmaster XM15-E2S A3 and Entreprise Arms STG58C.....each of them for less than $600 out of the door (including extra magazines, sling and hard plastic cases)....up to 1-1 1/2 years ago you could not touch these, around here in Western WA, for less than $1000 a piece....

Both of them are in perfect shape (the AR seems it was almost never fired), extremely accurate.

So my firearms collection is heading towards completion (well.....as you know there is always an excuse to buy the next firearm!!!) with the addition of a modern assault type rifle/varminter and a modern battle rifle firing a full power cartridge.

That's awesome. Always nice to get some deals and the Entreprise FAL is a pretty decent gun in my experience.:)

All AR's in my area (Gander Mtn. anyway) seem to still be going for over $1,000

I never understood how Gander Mountain sells any guns with their ridiculous prices. Their optics and certain other accessories seem to be ok price-wise though.

And Entreprise Arms seems to have excellent customer service so far in my limited experience...I called them to buy the original user manual and they sent one plus the cleaning kit that can be inserted in the rifle grip for free!! I got immediately to a real person and he was very knowledgeable.

LOL! We must be talking about a different Entreprise!

My Entreprise never answers the phone, takes forever to get your order, and takes forever times two to return your rifle for repairs unless you can get Matt to fast track it, swell guy that he is. Too bad he no longer works there.

That means I got very lucky then!! Hopefully I will never need them....well actually I need to order from them the receiver cover with integrated Picatinny rail sometime in the future....

You did get lucky, as did I and a friend. Thanks again to Matt. Others have been waiting two years for their rifle back.

You can get the railed top cover from DSA as well with about the same crappy turnaround time. You can get the UTG version for $65 or so and it is a quality piece. Rail is in spec for good tight optic mounting.

Sorry, but this violates the fundamental laws of the Universe. A firearms collection can never be complete. Your recent additions, however, especially the Enterprise, go a long way toward enhancing the coolness of your collection.

I always thought the Obama scare was a sham and I'm glad it's turned out to be. I figured he'd have more on his plate to deal with and I never really though he seemed openly anti

Nice FAL. I want one.

It is nice to know the 2nd amendment is safe. now we can relax. Yeah right!

Sorry for the sarcasm but there are folks out there that do not sleep figuring out schemes to take your guns rights and not only that some of the other liberties along with it.
Think about it twice and think about the first amendment and the constitution and everything that this entails. Responsible gun ownership starts with responsible citizenship.

Please help me educate other citizens....

Obama is guarded by armed men, and nearly everywhere he goes there are secret service snipers overlooking him.
He is not messing with our gun rights, it's the other liberal democrats doing that.
There is not alot of threat of him "taking our guns" that would be impossible, it would, on the other hand, be very easy to stop the flow of cheap ammo...

Actually I never believed in the "Obama is going to take your guns" rant, however after the 2008 election, when the Democrats had solid majorities (and the White House) there was, right or wrong, a worry among gun enthusiasts that if they enjoyed long term political dominance they could eventually put their hands in their gun control policies pet project.

This perception was obviously well exploited by many in the gun business...prices went up no question about.

Now with the Dems political difficulties and a boxed in president, that perception is not longer there or at least it is significantly subdued....and, as far as I can see around here, prices responded.

Nice rifles, saturno_v and welcome back.

IBTL

The threat from Obama is in his judicial nominations and the fact that he would sign gun control legislation into law should it be passed by the legislature. Fortunately, congress was too busy driving our economy into the tank to spend any time on gun control. Now with the Republicans in control of the house it is unlikely that any bad legislation will get introduced or passed.

This perception was obviously well exploited by many in the gun business...prices went up no question about.

Exploited? It's called supply and demand. It's the way our capitalist economy is designed to work.

The term "exploited" in my expression did not have a necessary negative connotation....

I think he reacted to the "assault rifle" buying frenezy. That's why he changed his mind. The huge number of people (voters) rushing to buy semiautos is what scared him.
He's not stupid. I notice he's not exactly a "man of action". More like a "man of reaction".
In many cases where people wanted to see his opinion about something, he waited long enough to see what the general opinion was and then acted.

(Feels like this thread is about to get beat down by a moderator....... :) )

"O" is not going to do anything about guns, or change the laws. Lets face it, most anti's are usually dems, and aren't happy with "O" not changing any gun laws. But they will definitely continue to vote in their party, vs. voting for a republican. As stated by an Anti in the video: "PBS Need to Know - The Open Carry Movement (Part I)" as posted on: http://www.opencarry.org/

Any dealers have any opinions on political changes affecting the market?

While I appreciate that we've managed to avoid political commentary for the most part, I believe we don't really need to tempt fate any farther.

So, as some of you have suggested, I think we'll zip this one up.
