I'm looking for a flint lock pistol that's kinda "pirate" looking.

Where do you even look for something like that?


I saw one at a gun show a few weeks ago for about $150 but I don't know anything about them.

SodaPop: Since you live in S.E. PA you aren't that far from Dixon's, one of the best muzzleloader shops in the USA. Shoot up to Allentown, go west on RT22 to the Kutztown-Kempton exit and go right (north toward Kempton) several miles. You will see a low sign on the right pointing to the shop. Also, Cabelas is a few miles futher west on RT22 where 22 and 61 intersect.

Soda me matey, I've been grounded myself for the past couple of weeks with a hemotoma (sp). Crashed on the bike and I've a tennis ball size lump on my inner thigh.

Haven't worked on guns but I've been refining my work on sharpshooting. When you're better and can hobble around, go to one of the Rendezvous and you may find yourself a flinter for $150 or so.

I'd cast a second vote for Middlesex Village Trading for a purchase. I recently bought a 1777 French musket from them and the price, quality and service is absolutely unbeatable. Pete Plunkett runs the place, and is deeply invested in his customer's satisfaction. He doesn't list too many things on his website, but if you e-mail him with your needs he'll get it for you - likely at a cost that undercuts the competition handily. I have no connection to the business - just a satisfied customer.

If Pete can't get what you want, try Loyalist Arms in Canada (www.loyalistarms.com). They should be able to set you up, and their prices are awfully low.

I saw a nice used Harpers Ferry ( i think that was it) 58 caliber pistol for $200 at Dixons.

It's fairly common,but since it's not as common of a hunting caliber as .50,.54, .45, you may not find it at say, WalMart. Most common American made Civil War muzzleloaders were in .58,so there's lots of .58 weapons out there, they're just in the hands of reenactors who often don't fire lead through them.
It would be easiest if you learned to cast.
I'd love to get a Harpers Ferry pistol. I need another GPR barrel first,however.

I went on a rather fruitless search for an under $325 flintlock pistol whose lines I liked. I don't care for the Traditions or CVA's that I've seen, and don't really want a Queen Anne style weapon. I wish Lyman would make their pistol in flintlock!
