I'm still quite new to this whole 'gun' thing, and newer still to the 'rifle' part of it. But I've picked up that there's more to slings than just a handy way of toting your iron around the woods. Would one of you fine, educated gents be so kind as to point me in a direction in which I might find more information on the proper use of these accessories? I would greatly appreciate it, as it'd give my slings something to do other than languish in an old trunk. :)

If you want to read a little try Jeff Cooper's "The Art of the Rifle" A good place to get military slings is Turner sling. These are actual shooting slings as opposed to the carry straps most hunters use.

Good luck!

Here's a couple online resources I found to be most helpful:

Maj. John Plaster's Use of the Rifle Sling (http://www.rifleshootermag.com/shooting_tips/sling_0612/)

From an Army manual, I think (http://www.seidata.com/~adking/use_of_the_rifle_sling.htm)

I also second Redhat's recommendation on the Turner sling. I've got a Turner's black leather NM sling on one of my rifles and I absolutely love it.

Hope this helps you,

That might be of some help. It's not all inclusive but it'll give you the basics.
