Does anyone have a recommendation of a plater who will strip a hard chrome finish from a handgun frame? Never dealt with hard chrome before in any way, shape, or form and would like to remove the hard chrome from a frame but I'm sure that it is a chemical/electrical process and not a purely physical one.

Check out www.techplate.com

You will find articles on nickle and chrome stripping - reverse plating. You can also call Marshall at Techplate and field any question. I've never used them, but Marshall was more than willing to entertain my queries, whether by phone or by e-mail.

Harold, call Bob Cogan at Accurate Plating and Weaponry, they are in Safety Harbor FL if memory serves me. He might not tell you what you want to hear but he will tell you how the world turns regarding plating and not waste a lot of your time. If you want to hear fluffy good things regardless of the situation I can tell you that Bob is not your guy. He can deliver what he promises, nothing less and probably something more but don't hold your breath.

I know this doesnt answer your question in any way shape or form but, why would you want to REMOVE hard chrome from your frame? I always thought it was among the best finishes you could have on a firearm.

Have a friend who needed to strip the hard chrome off a 1911 frame many years ago, and IIRC he sent it to a guy who used cupric acid.

Thank you for the replies. While Marshall was very helpful, the gentleman at APW (not Bob) was even more helpful and the price was better.

Can someone post the link or number for APW? I also need some work done. Thanks,

Dave
