Now that the GOP has taken over the house when will they be intruducing a bill allowing everyone to carry nationwide? And when will they be repealing the 1968 Gun Control Act and the NFA Act? Perhaps we should start hounding John Boehner about legalizing the Constitution? I remember some candidates mentioning their support for the 2nd Amendment, well let's make them put their (our) money where their mouth is!

Regrettibly, after the incident yesterday I fully expect them to introduce legislation to further restrict gun rights within the next week.

Majority Leader Eric Cantor already announced that he has "postponed all previously-scheduled legislation for the coming week to accommodate any action needed" (relating to the event's in Arizona). My bet is that somone will propose some gun control bill because of this and the cravenly RINOs still in charge of the party will allow a vote on it, one that will narrowly fall in favor of gun control.

Keep an eye on the news and be ready to swamp your representatives in e-mails.

The most tragic thing is that despite AZ's recent Constitutional carry law, more responsibly carrying citizens could have prevented this. Just one CCW in the crowd could have totally changed the outcome. It happens every day across this country, just sadly not here.

How do we better get the word out about this? Students after the VA Tech shooting were able to start a push for CCW on campus after that tragedy. In this case, how do responsible gun owners get the word out that someone like this guy would have been able to get a gun regardless of where he purchased it and obviously the police are only able to be there after the fact. But, he could have been stopped by a prepared citizen...

Quaamik, the only one of those things will happen is that someone will grouse over inadequate gun laws. No one is proposing any legislation.

There is a good news bad news aspect of our current situation. The dems are too scared to mention gun laws. They are on the defensive. The current momentum is clearly in our favor. But gun laws are also at the bottom of the current republican agenda, because of our current success.

NY Congresswoman McCarthy is planning on proposing additional gun control legislation tomorrow according to national news sources. If cooler heads don't prevail there will be serious national repercussions from one perps actions.

What McCarthy proposes will be heard by......no one but McCarthy. Boehner has other things he wants to discuss tomorrow. (We haven't gotten rid of her YET?!)

Maybe its just me OP but you seem to have an agenda. If I am wrong, please explain, but, just looking at your links and whatnot, I am confused.

No, you are exactly correct in this assessment.

In light of recent events I have taken out my links.

As far as an agenda, I have none. I just would love to see gun rights restored.

Moved to "Activism Discussion/Planning" as there is no plan here yet. When you have a plan worked out, make a new thread in "Activism" telling others what you're doing that they should do, too.

IMHO, all the more reason to push back. They are never going to give up on taking away our rights and will use any excuse they can. Where was their outrage when Border Patrol Agents were shot and killed by illegal aliens, or when U.S. soldiers were shot and killed on a U.S. military base by a Muslim extremist ?

National carry after the arizona tragedy? Yeah. We'll be lucky if we don't get another AWB.

Nope. This is a slow news week. This event is not big enough to trigger any more rhetoric or laws. When congress turns up the heat on health care repeal, this will go away. You will see a blurb about the shooter getting another hearing in two weeks, you will see announcements about the victim's status and whether or not she will return to her seat, but this is a bump in the agenda Obama doesn't want. He REALLY was hoping not to have to say a SINGLE WORD about guns before 2012. Now he might be FORCED to make a comment, and it will be used against him later. Neither The President, The Senate, nor The Congress wants to propose any new gun laws.

He WILL however, look into seeing what he can regulate by executive order through BATFE. That is a way to appease his base by showing he is trying to do something, wthout actually doing anything.

Autolycus,

If I'm correct, after reading the various news reports on the incident in AZ, at least two of the people who were instrumental in taking down the shooter before he could reload were citizens who could legally carry firearms. As I remember, both were armed. There was also a woman involved who pulled the magazine from the shooter's hand as he tried to reload. Although her eligibility status to carry a firearm is unknown she is still a good citizen who got involved and helped to prevent further bloodshed.

My point is that, as the result of this tragedy, the anti-gun crowd is already arguing for more stringent gun control of which would only affect honest law abiding citizens, the same law abiding citizens who tackled this shooter ending the fray. The antis want to disarm the same citizens who were intelligent enough not to use their firearms to engage the shooter, likely because of the crowd around him, and were brave enough to stop the shooter.

The antis don't care about the safety of citizens. If they did then they'd be working to address the mental health and societal issues that breed violent Psychopathic individuals. They wouldn't be doing their best to make it tougher for law abiding citizens to exist.

As one would expect, the NY Times is stirring up the pot already. An editorial:

I think the best course of action right now is to contact your reps and tell them that you want National Constitutional Carry, and the 1968 and 1986 laws repealed. We (firearm owners) as a voting block need to stop being reactive and start being proactive, before the left can ram through another AWB.
