Spyderco Centofante III

I picked up one of these babys off of Amazon.com for $49.66 with free shipping :evil:

Came sooner than they estimated, by a day nonetheless, and not a day too late for me. Box was in good shape. Blade is ground right. #3 in the spidy collection. pics to come later once i get done fingering it.

SOLID lock up, VG-10 steel (a wonderful steel in my opinion) and FRN handle make this a SUPER under $50 knife you newer guys are always asking about. The blade is actually kinda thin, but remember it is in fact VG-10, which in my other spidies hasent let me down. As long as used for its purpose, this thin blade should slice and dice with ease. The serrations on the spine where your thumb would rest is very aggresive, like my SOG Field Pups, which I like. The hole is actually a wee bit too small for me but my experiance has taught me how to wrist flick it open or hold it between my thumb and index finger and flick the handle away from the blade. Enough talk, time for me to take pictures!

The Centofantes look like value-priced slicing machines. Let us know how you like it after you cut some stuff.

Lined up with my Endura and Delica. I love my Endura. One tough knife! survived iraq, survived Fort Polk and Fort Hood training. Just wish it dident have those stupid serrations. For some reason 90% of the knives in the PX where serrated models. If I needed serrations I woulda reached into my bag and got a folding saw jeeze. Even has some tan paint splotches on it from repainting designations on humvees.

Second one is it shown with the other two for thickness relevance. 2mm blade stock.

sonofodin-zip tie!!! Your the only other person I've seen do this. Well kept info, that makes a deployment of a folder quicker than an auto!

Heh the ole zip tie trick. It works pretty good except it adds bulk and catches on my pants. Need to scrounge up some wee fellahs or melt it slightly with the zippo.

How would I survive the zombies without zipties on my stuff? Maybe I should wrap my delica's g-10 handle with duct tape he he he he.

i have had the centofante 3 for about 7 or 8 months and its an especially good choice for those times when you have to wear slacks, khakis, etc. this knife is very light in weight. the blade is thin, which makes this an outstanding for things like food prep, opening packages, envelopes, etc. its not fragile, but not heavy duty either. enjoy.

Now we gotta ask where it went :D

Thanks for pointing that out brad. I think I see about 10 of those in my future. Especially for the Buck 110 in the photo. If they are sturdy enough I'd add them to my spyderco's. I dont have a particular issue with the hole. I can wrist flick them right side up, up side down, etc. I just like the thumb stud idea because its what im used to. Then again, thats why spyderco's are so unqiue...

Are those the right size to fit? The Buck 110 has a thick spine. The Delica and Centofante have very thin spines

I think it depends on your situation... I like a good ol' nail nick folder, but try opening one with gloves on...

Indeed it is rather troublesome. Thats why I like the Casexx Russlock and Trapperlock ;).

I find this to be an excellent general purpose shape.

Of course the EKA is very much a two-hands opener/closer, but I have no beef with that.

I've never understood why anyone wrist flicks spydercos. Under stress or even just in a normal work environment it just makes you more likely to drop the knife. I don't think it's faster. Maybe if you have small hands...?

I have the one with a straight edge blade, but I started carrying a CRKT my tight.

EKA makes sweet knives. I love the curvature of this blade.

The idea for getting this spyderco:

I had a $50 gift card for my birthday on the 5th and was looking for a quality pocket knife to add to the collection. I looked and looked. The criteria was that it had to be:

1. Strong
2. From a dependable maker
3. Sport quality blade steel

Many models came and passed for #3. I know what some people are thinking....Bit cheep for quality steel, right?? Nonesense. I passed on some more traditional folders and settled on a modern design. I almost got a Randel Model 1 from Ontario, but nobody had a satin plain edge in stock. Then I saw this and, in my opinion, VG-10 is a vast upgrade to AUS-8. Not to mention that I KNEW it was going to be a quality blade in fit and finish unless it was a lemon from the factory. (thats a given on any knife)

It's a too each their own situation with the thumbstuds. I have knives with thumbstuds and I like holes way, way better. Matter of preference is all.

I wish Spyderco would re-release the Centofante line in G-10 or CF. Hell even a Stainless or Titanium model would be cool.

I've got one, love this knife. It has replaced my well worn 940 for a nice night out with friends.

Wow -- that's a great concept (assuming it works well)!

I have a beautiful old S&W folding knife (stainless steel slabs with wood inlays, great blade steel and blade contour) that I've retired because it doesn't have one-handed capability. I'd love to bring it "back to life," and this might just be the ticket... :)

The Centofante III was my first good knife! It's a very nice knife for the price.

Spyderco makes a heck of nice knife.
