Durty January 11, 2011, 02:04 PM I received a brand new model 700 chambered in .22-250 for Christmas and I am already sick of the X Mark Pro trigger. I am going to buy a replacement from Cabela's because I am using a gift card. I am looking at Cabela's website and the Rifle Basix trigger offers a "K Kit" to replace X Mark triggers. My question is, what is the difference between a trigger with or with this "K Kit." If I am replacing an X Mark trigger, do I HAVE to replace it with a specialized trigger or can I simply use an ordinary right handed model 700 replacement? Thanks!

nathan January 11, 2011, 02:24 PM Is there anything wrong with the X Mark Pro trigger ? HOw does it compare with the older Walker type thats maligned by many ? Both my Remington 700s are with the Walker type.
Does the X Mark Pro have a marked improvement in trigger break? smoothness and overtravel ?
nathan January 11, 2011, 03:11 PM Oh never mine, heres the description by Remington, i hope its pretty good ,

TonyAngel January 11, 2011, 03:36 PM I agree with you on the X Mark trigger. Although I can lighten it to an extent, I never could get that crisp feel out of it. I replaced mine with a Timney. It took all of about 5 minutes to install and made a drastic difference in terms of "feel." Just watch who you order it from. I'm not saying this in the sense that you may get ripped off, but in the sense that some vendors (ordering direct included) will allow you to choose your pull weight and will set it for you, so that you don't have to mess with it. I got mine for $125, although I've seen them on sale for $99.
A word of caution though, the trigger is WIDE. For me, it's too wide. I have to watch not to put lateral force on the trigger when I squeeze. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably go with a Shillen (sp?). My buddy has almost the same build that I do, but he went with a Shillen. It has the same feel as the Timney, but the trigger is narrower and I feel, more forgiving.
JDGray January 11, 2011, 04:16 PM My LTR .223 came equipped with a Rifle Basixs trigger, mine breaks at less then a pound. It compares to my Savage Accutrigger in feel, but lighter. This version runs from 8oz to 3lb, has the bolt release and safety lever.
Durty January 11, 2011, 07:15 PM I do have a Shilen on another model 700 chambered in 300 win mag that I installed myself and it's a very good trigger. Breaks at 24 oz. I would buy one again but they do not sell them at Cabela's (and that's where my gift card is to). Again, my original question is, with the X Mark Pro trigger, do I HAVE to buy the Rifle Basix trigger with the "K Kit" or can I simply buy the standard Rem 700 trigger? They claim the "K Kit" is to replace the X Mark Pro trigger. And Nathan, to answer your question, after owning a rifle with a very good trigger, I have been a bit spoiled. The X Mark Pro trigger is fine but it is still undoubtedly worth the extra $100 for an aftermarket trigger. The Shilen I have is in a different league than the X Mark and I am hoping whatever I get is as good as the Shilen.
LeonCarr January 11, 2011, 07:54 PM The Shilen is a excellent trigger, and AFAIK it also has the fewest moving parts. It is above and beyond the X Mark thingy.
DougW January 12, 2011, 09:48 PM You need to find a Remington gun plumber/armorer and ask him. You probably know more about the trigger replacement than 99% of the Remington 700 owners on the boards right now. I have the X Mark Trigger in my 700 and I love it. Hopefully someone will know and be able to help you.
Skylerbone January 12, 2011, 10:01 PM The K Kit includes the safety and bolt stop release while the standard reuses the OEM parts. Order the K Kit, do not substitute a standard Remington trigger from a donor rifle.
Durty January 13, 2011, 10:42 PM Ok- thanks for your help
