THIS (http://cnn.com/video/?/video/business/2011/01/13/qmb.gun.laws.rights.cnni) is a good discussion, but I think it leaves out a very important piece of the puzzle. At the end of the video it cites gun deaths in the US in relation to the rest of the civilized world. In those other countries with lower gun-related deaths, what are the death rates via other means? Remember the story in China a while back about that crazy guy with a machete killing children in a daycare center? He killed a LOT of people without a gun. If you're going to have this kind of discussion, you should include other types of violence, which points out that if you're hell-bent on killing someone, lack of a gun isn't going to stop you.

It's our responsibility to keep these discussions honest, and point out these shortcomings in statistics that measure gun violence.

So what are you proposing we do as a course of action?

Since it's nearly impossible to do anything to make news sites like CNN change their ways, I'm just suggesting we make sure that when we have conversations with friends and neighbors, don't let people get away with the argument that gun deaths in the US are higher than other places without pointing out all of the other ways of killing someone that aren't counted in those numbers.
