The .50 cal Lyman Great Plains Rifle from the auction that I won on Gunbroker arrived today. It's better than what I was expecting from my first GB purchase.

Thanks to all who contributed to my earlier thread about the selection of my first BP rifle. Your comments were a big help in the decision process.

good choice, its a good shooting rifle, mine likes patched balls with 100 grains of pyrodex it will really put down deer.
but it sure is a pain in the rear to keep clean and rust free. i soak mine in rem oil and put it in a treated gun sock and it still gets surface rust over the summer.
let us know how it shoots!

Nice! Love those. I've built 2 of the "kits." Browned furniture.

Nicest, most correctly styled of any of the "kit" or "production" black powder rifles out there. A great all-round value in a target or hunting percussion rifle. You made a good choice!
