Which way did AR mag followers tilt?

When did the "latest" green USGI anti-tilt followers for AR/M16 series come out? Did they correct a front/back tilt or a sideways tilt--IOW, exactly what problem did they address?
And.....with these latest followers, is the practice of loading your 30s with only 28 rounds no longer needed? (That was a spring problem leading to the 2nd-round FTFds, wasn't it?)

Anti-tilt followers correct a side-to-side tilting problem. They have a long "leg" at the front of the follower which rides in a channel at the front of the mag. The leg in the channel positions the follower so that it can move vertically but cannot "rock" from side to side.

Dang... I always thought that the anti-tilt leg was to keep the round lifting evenly instead of letting the nose raise before the head. (prevent bolt-overs?)

From nemesis' description, it sounds like they would prevent tilt in both axes.
