Not so great day at the range....

So I leave work at 12:30 today and go to the range...it's about 40 degrees so I figure it will be nice......get to the range...have to climb over snow w/ all my crap:gun bag,targets,silloettes,target holders,15lbs of ammo......get to the combat range,start stapling my silloettes to the target stands and run out of staples after 3....didn't bring tape.......start shooting anyway,slip on ice(don't fall tho).....don't shoot for crap.....100 rounds thru the SP,100 thru the G17 before I realize it's not my day to shoot.....my groups look like a shot pattern........wasted ammo.....but hey......better than work I guess......:(

At least you got to go, Tony. Something came up and I didn't make it out today.:(

I think we have discussed this before but yeah ... the occasional range day - well ..... it just sux. Seems sometimes if you get off on wrong foot (staples for example) seems to sour the whole session.

However ... puit it down to experience and to back of mind. The next trip will be better - when you get a bad one .... the only way is up!

I get most irate when, having thought I'd planned properly - I forget something critical - like a needed mag .... or specific box of ammo.

Think about it this way.

Will a criminal wait for perfect sunny weather and attack you so that the wind and sun are conveniently at your back, while you're situated in a perfect weaver stance, wearing comfortable shoes and a light well fitting polo shirt that dosen't interfere with your draw?

The way I see it, even the misery of rain, snow, ice, wind etc. at the range is useful in some way.

Good thing there were only paper targets, because I'm sure that you'd never have to defend yourself at 40 degrees while standing on ice... hehehe

I suppose you got some useful training out of the day, even if it seemed like a bust...

Look at it this way: your accuracy should be a secondary concern. Your primary concern should be that you got to go shooting.

I have a confession... I haven't been shooting for about 2 months. A combination of the cold weather/3 feet of snow/lack of money is the reason, but it still feels like there's a hole in my life.

Be glad that you got to shoot!

Yeah, I guess I was lucky to go...Today however...I'm going to shoot in the back yard..with the target stand my wife made for me for Christmas.....will be way better...plus I can take the all important coffe break in my own living room.....:D Living in the woods is great......:cool:

But seriously, at least you got to go shooting - I don't seem to find the time nearly as often as I'd like. On days like that I just relax and say @#$%^ keeping up with accuracy, today I'm just plinking.

Well, at least it's not as bad a as dear friend who drove 2 hours to meet up with us to shoot AND

left his ammo at home.
