How many of us actually practice with the bullet we carry every day in our J-frame, LCR or other small compact revolvers?

I run atleast 10 rounds each time I go to the range, I'll admit its not the funnest thing out of a 642 130+p PDX1

I have shot carry ammo in my J frame. But for regular practice I shoot my own target loads due to cost constraints of defense ammo. That option did not appear in the poll.

I went with once a trip, but an option for 3-4 times a year would have been more accurate. I don't shoot the lightweight carry pistols more than a few times a year, instead shooting my all steel or full service sized pistols when I get range time (about twice a month). However that said for a long time now my SP101 has been my main carry pistol.

I'll run the 5 carry loads i've had in the sp-101 while at the range. After that it's mostly 38spl's and when i'm done,5 new 357mag rounds get put back in and i'm on my way.

I carry a S&W 442 with the Buffalo Bore 158 Gr LSWCHP +P's. Luckily I live close to a Cabela's and can always find my carry load locally. Generally about 10-20 per range trip is plenty. They're a little snappy.

My 38 Special defense load is the +P 158 grain lead HP SWC (so called FBI load).

My practice load is a 158 grain lead SWC, loaded as a full load 38 Special.
I don't reload or shoot light practice loads.

I've got most of a case of the +P but seldom shoot it because it's close to what I normally practice with.

I like the Smith J Frames and shoot them probably more than anything else.

Sorry about the poll options couldn't think how to word it correctly, I was wondering if I was doing something wrong by only running a few rounds each time. Which honestly is once every 3 mos. I haven't found anywhere locally that carries the PDX1. Thank you again for the replies and sorry again for the wording

I have 357 JHP 125G Ammo reloaded. It is close to what I carry in my LCR. In my heavier 357s I carry a little Hotter load. The old Federal 125G classic 357. When that round goes off in my SP101 it sounds like a canon and there is no doubt you are shooting full house 357. It is not uncontrollable but, you better be hanging on.

I run 2 cylinders through at least once a month. I use the same weight bullets that I use in my carry ammo, 158 gr., just reloads.

I voted once a month, one cylinder, because that is probably the average of what I do. I carry the old FBI load, because it shoots closest to the POA in my 638. I'd like to try a lot more ammo, to see what shoots closer to point of aim. Truth be told, I'm in school again so money is really tight, and firing off carry ammo is pretty painful on the wallet.

I usually make it out to the range twice a month. The 642 is one of my main carry guns (along with a few other double action revolvers), so it gets regular practice. I shoot full-power loads in it.

I shoot 50 rounds a week through my S&W 642, I'm getting quite good with it. Put 5 shots in 1.5" handheld 40ft. Admittedly, only 5 of the 50 is +p carry load.

I tried practicing with loads other than what I carry. Always trying something new, but still go back to my trusted carry load and stick with it for practice.

I carry either Speer short barrel .38 Special +P ammo or the FBI load. Both are expensive so I load replica loads for practice but I do shoot 1 or 2 cylinders of the original before I leave the range.
