My new Kel Tec PF9

Got it yesterday. Took it to the range today. Very pleased 150 rounds no problems. Three different types of hardball and two different JHP. Shot them all. ZERO malfunctions of any sort. Accuuracy more than adequate for self defense distances. Trigger pull not nearly as bad a P11 I had years back. Will it replace my G19, no. Will it regulate my Ruger LCR to the safe,YES.

I've had one for about a year now, has never malfunctioned. Have never bothered to get a .380 due to having this pistol. Definitely small enough and more power + cheaper practice ammo than a .380.
Just remember never to dry fire it, that will permanently damage the screw that retains the extractor and firing pin.
Enjoy it.

I have well over 2000 rounds through mine, never a malfunction of any kind. The trigger has been dry fired (with a snap cap) probably as much as the gun has been fired. The trigger on mine is every bit as nice as my tuned S&W Model 12. The ammo that has run through mine consists largely of my reloads along with about 100 CorBon DPX. Normally if gun will feed my reloads it will feed anything, I use the same bullet for my 9mm reloads as I use for my 38/357 and 38 Super. It is a 125gr, wide, flat, semi jacketed hollow point.
Mine gets carried mostly in pocket in a Tuff Products pocket holster or in a Kramer Confidential or similar t-shirt.

You are lucky to have found one. Many, many LEO are carrying them as bugs. It's really a great pistol for the money. Kel Tec Service is second to none. Enjoy! I have one in my carry rotation and I will trust my life on it.

Is this gun really pocket-concealable? How does the recoil compare to a j frame snubbie?

Sure is pocket-able with a DeSantis or Uncle Mikes pocket holster. Yes it does recoil as bad as the J Frames too. More rounds than 5 is the trade off. I always like more bullets!

I had one and I thought it shot ok until I purchased a PM9.
As far as pocket carry, not in the pockets I have in my pants and that goes for the PM9 as well.

I pocket carry mine frequently. It conceals easily in any weather or clothing. I have had one for over 3 years now and it has been a very good weapon.

I pocket carry mine occasionally with no holster, but nothing else in the pocket. Usually just carry it IWB and forget it's there. I dry fired mine about 20 times before finding out i shouldn't, and it still works well. Never had any malfunctions. Love the way it handles.

With my PF9, pocket carry depends on which pants. Regular jeans, no. Cargo pants or khakis/slacks, yes.
Usually, I just tuck it IWB. Will probably get the KT belt clip for it.
I agree that the PF9 has totally stopped me wanting a .380. It is a great gun, and I have heard that a company is making a .22lr conversion for it. :)

I'm in for a PF9 as soon as that .22 conversion comes out, it is a close thing now, sometimes I want a "coat gun" this time of year and the pf9 would (in theory) drop into any coat pocket I own, probably I'd sew in some Velcro to the pockets and the pocket holster.
I have nicer guns for IWB, but they cost a LOT more than a PF9!
Hey, a random thought ... is the trigger useable with gloves on? My p32's trigger is damn near impossible with my big fingers and a glove thicker than a mechanic's glove, I guess I'll have to take a glove to the shop to be sure.

Bought mine in April of 2010, and it quickly replaced my much-nicer-shooting Bersa Thunder 380 as my EDC. Performance has been flawless, though, admittedly, I have only put maybe 150 rounds through it. It is certainly not a "fun" gun; it's purpose is to serve you when its needed, and to be there to do so (and for a working man's price!) It excels on all three counts.
I carry ITB (IWB worn between belt and pants), which is how I carried the Thunder. I have dropped it into dress pants pockets, but it prints pretty substantially in those in a pair of jeans.

I think the PF9's recoil is less than my Ruger LCR.

I've mentioned this before, in other discussions, but there are grip enhancements available from KTADDONS, which noticeably reduce felt recoil in both the PF-9 and P3AT. (I used the same stuff on an LCP, too, which worked there, too.) It's under $15.

If you want a rubber grip for a P-3AT/LCP you can make the same grip from a bicycle inner tube. This is one I made, but just be sure to get the wider tubes because the tubes for those real thin tires are too small.
One tube will yield at least 20 grips and will cost less than one grip from KTADDONS.

One hell of a 9mm pocket rocket launcher. Plus you just can't beat the price or the service. Second to none. Got 5 of them in the family and everyone is very pleased with their performance. This is not a range toy, it is a true self protection firearm.

I carried mine today. It is so lightweight and easy iwb. My hard chrome model has been flawless for almost 600 rounds of mixed ammo. I highly recommend them. It is one of the easiest guns to carry out there, especially in 9mm.

The PF-9 is a GREAT pistol. I don't mean good, I mean GREAT. Incredibly accurate, adjustable sights that can be seen, full power 9mm in a very small light weight package, reliable, relatively low recoil, inexpensive, good trigger for it's purpose. All this for $224 at a local gun show. The PF-9 is a package thats hard to beat, hard to even believe.

It is a good gun.
It's not relatively low recoil. Compared to a P9, a gun of almost the same size (but much more expensive), it's far more unpleasant to shoot. (I've had both.) It is inexpensive and has a relatively good trigger. (The Kahr P9 or PM9 have better triggers, but you have pay a lot more to get that.)
The PF-9 doesn't have adjustable sights.
As that term is widely/generally used, it means a sight which, when locked into the dovetail, can be micro-adjusted, with a screwdriver or similar tool, for both elevation and windage. The PF-9's sight can only be adjusted for windage, by sliding the sight. There is no elevation adjustment. And the screw only holds it in place.
Most guns have a similar arrangement, without or without a screw to keep it tight. They aren't called adjustable. In fact, darned few guns DON'T have this capability -- mostly only the smallest guns, like the LCP or P3AT.
It's a great value. I carry one more than I carry anything else. In a leather pocket holster.

I also have a PF9. It is my carry gun usually when I am riding my motorcycle, but I carry it some when deep concealment is needed. I usually carry it in Don Hume IWB holster, but have pocket carried in in a DeSantis Nemisis. I will sometime put it in my tankbag on the bike if riding long distances.
The PF9 is NOT a range gun, and it get down right uncomfortable after anything more the 50 rounds at one time. I a have added the KTADDONS grip sleeve, and it helps. It is still not a very pleasant gun to shoot with many rounds at one sitting. I usuaslly just run 25 though it when I take it to the range. I have over 300 rounds of various range and carry ammo through mine without any problems. I have NOT done any Fluff & Buff as some recommend. I carry it with 147 gr JHP Winchester Ranger.
It is accurate at short distance(3 to 7 yards), the trigger is decent, It was inexpensive to purchase(under $300 NIB) and it conceals very well. Thats all I can ask of carry weapon.
I also have a Kel Tec P3AT that another great carry weapon as BUG.

Mine kicks like a mule, but have it loaded out with an X2 Laser/Light for those dim nights :)
I can hit steel plates at 15yrds no problem, for Self Defense if you shoot further then that, you gonna be in the grey bar hotel with 3 hots and a cot.

I would be astounded if you don't LOVE your new pocket rocket.
It IS a pocket rocket though, and has the typical pocket-rocket feel when firing. I HIGHLY recommend getting the extended baseplates for the magazines, it makes the grip much more comfortable and solid to tame the recoil.
For the price, the trigger is amazingly smooth, even though it's a really long trigger pull.

If you want a rubber grip for a P-3AT/LCP you can make the same grip from a bicycle inner tube. This is one I made, but just be sure to get the wider tubes because the tubes for those real thin tires are too small.
I did the same thing for my CZ-52. $4 inner-tube has me set for slip on grips for a while. I bought one for the largest size tire I could which should yield dozens of grips before it runs out. I'll probably skip over the sections with writing on them though. I'm not quite that tacky :p.
I actually had a Hogue Handall grip on that gun and I pulled it off in favor of the inner-tube. Didn't like the finger grooves or the palm swell on the Hogue grip. The inner-tube is just a thin layer of rubber over the stock contour which is exactly what I wanted.

All kinds of things will take the writing off. Paint thinner, MEK, lighter fluid etc.

I kind of like these guns, especially being so slim for a 9. Had considered one to become my CCW gun, but they look incredibly snappy in every video I've seen of them, practically trying to jolt out of users' hands. I'm not incredibly recoil sensitive, but I want something I can shoot more than 2 rounds per five seconds with.

The ones I have have some kind of white paper-like coating on the inside part that would prohibit that.

When I bought my PF-9, I had read all the blurbs about snappy recoil, kicks like a mule, etc. Imagine my surprise when it did none of these things. I found the PF-9 far more pleasant and far less snappy to shoot than my P3AT.
I tried a grip extension on the magazine, then removed it. I find it much easier to shoot using the flat-bottom mag with a two-finger grip and my pinkie tucked under the mag.
The ONLY thing I really detest about the PF-9 is that accessory rail up front. I wish Kel-Tec would have offered a rounded dust cover like is on their P11. But some folk like to hang lots of stuff off their pocket guns....I suppose it does make a good bayonet mount. :D

Glad to hear so many happy comments. I just wonder when yall say this gun is accurate for its size I realize that means its accurate enough for "defensive purposes". I guess my question is how accurate are they. I know its not a range gun but that doesnt mean I want accuracy.

Mine shoots good. 7 rounds @ 25 yards pulling on the trigger pretty fast. :)
