What is the quality of PSE compound bows? I'm considering buying a PSE "Beast" as my first compound bow to use for hunting. Is it worth the money? Or am I better off with something else?
Thanks!
John

My old man used to shoot a PSE at local matches. It's held up quite well. I like it a little better than my High Country.

PSE bows are a mass merchant grade bow. They have been moving that brand down market for a few years now. Think of PSE=Savage. It works, its cheap, but it doesnt have much in terms of bells and whistles. For example, PSE directly taps the riser to accept the stabilizer- better quality bows use stainless bushings. PSE is a big volume producer and probably still sell more inexpensive (below $300.00) bows than anyone in the business.
Mathews and Hoyt are the top end bows on the market. Hoyt has moved ahead of Mathews significantly in the past two years and is currently the leading brand in the high end market ($600.00 plus). Between them, Hoyt and Mathews have about 85% of the high end bow market.
PSE introduced a new line last year called AR intended to compete with those two, but it has been a miserable failure so far, as two of their three first years models were improperly designed, leading to a recall of one model (AR34) and huge warranty rates on the other two.
Other good brands are Martin and Bowtech has been making some progress the past couple of years. The parent of Bear Archery went bankrupt last year. Their main competition was PSE.

I am not normaly one to oint out errors, but I feel I must point something out. I own a Pse quantum Which retailed for 799.00 It has all the "bells and whistles" of the so called top line bows. Oh and by the way consistently outshoots Mathews and Hoyt bows during my indoor shoots. Archery Research whose parent company is PSE has not been a miserable failure as described but a success yes they did have some problems initialy
but those problemms have been solved and most of the people that have one love them. You may also want to take a look at the Pse Team Primos STL this is the bow the Primos game call team shoots.
