Rate of Police Shootings in '11, Legislation?

Watching Fox News this morning, I noted that there have been 11 shootings of cops in the last four days. Four killed in Florida alone. One in my home state of Oregon just yesterday.
I don't know if this is a statistical anomaly (nor does anyone reporting at this time, admit it or not) or if a trend, but I think that this could result in Legislative changes faster than the Giffords shooting would.
Granted, all the cop-shooters are/were (I like "were" much better, cheaper than prison) criminals. But it just seems that this is the kind of thing that could result in a flurry of laws at the State level, which can happen faster than at the national.
Am I wrong in my concerns here? And how do I best, as an individual citizen, combat such legislation?

Moved to discussion, nothing really to do at this point. Honestly I think the media is fishing for a "trend" here, this sort of thing comes and goes. 4 days is not a "trend".
I know in this climate it's easy to look for anti gun legislation under every rock but we really need to remain calm and wait until something actually happens.
Will leave the discussion open for the last part, how best to combat this stuff.

It's an anomoly. But the grabbers will call it an ominous trend. There have been several short lived trends in the past. Just like the trend of animal mass die-offs. It made the news for a few days until biologists confirmed it was completely normal.

Press stiring the pot. I read the other day that officer deaths have been declining for the past 10 years.

The better question is: Why are career criminals out on parole?

You have to look at a broader time period for any valid interpretation.
The best thing to do is point out trends are made up of data points over time and a "blip" isn't a trend.

There are already laws on the books that mandate a life without parole, or even a death sentence, for killing LEOs.
Yet, we continue to catch and release violent offenders until they kill a cop. Perhaps our parole system needs a little less Leftist Morality, and a little more Common Sense.
