A S&W Model 15-4 revolver, .38 Special, for $900 ? :what:

That's the price for 3.5 of them around here.

Maybe and just maybe a NIB one. One of nicest revolvers around but there are quite a few out there and the price seems pretty high for anything used.

Depends on accessories. If it was new and had real elephant ivory grips ~ I'd give $900.

If its new condition $400 - $600 would be a range you will find them. There is a nice one on Gunbroker starting out at $600 ~ but no bids. Couple of others ranging fron $375 and up. If you are not paying shipping or transfer fees, $500 is probably not a bad price depending on condition if its what you want.

For a new in the box gun with a nickel finish, it would be a little high, for anything else, forget it. The Standard Catalog of S&W gave a value of $450 for as new in the box in 2006. I doubt the price has gone up that much since then.

The owner is either a) testing of there is a sucker born every minute, or b) he is looking at the MRSP of $919.00 for a new S&W Model 15 Classic on the S&W website. The problem with that is that per a poster on the S&W forum, S&W still don't have enough orders to justify the production run and the Model 15 Classic may not be produced. Which suggest that it is not worth $900 as even S&W can't sell them at that price.

Unless it's plated with a couple of ounces of 24kt gold.

The 15-4 is a pinned barrel and the 2006 book shows $450 for NIB. I would say $550 is top dollar for NIB today and you would have to want it. If it has any sign of a turn ring and no box/papers it's a $450 gun max.

Maybe if it belonged to Jack Ruby.
