Woman holds suspect at gunpoint

Gun-toting neighbor takes action, authorities say.

A Spotsylvania County woman—still annoyed by a burglary at her own home last week—took drastic action Wednesday when she saw the same thing happening to her neighbor, authorities say.

The 54-year-old woman got a gun and was still holding a teenage suspect at bay when a deputy arrived in Stoneybrook subdivision a short time later, Sheriff’s Maj. Howard Smith said.

The boy, 16, was charged with breaking and entering and possession of burglary tools. A second suspect ran away but police know who he is, Smith said.

“We don’t recommend this type of action,” Smith said. “We’d rather for our citizens to just be good witnesses. Although this turned out positive, it could have had a bad ending.”

No, the bad ending is when the 16 year old gets a slap on the wrist and gets sent on his merry way to continue in his chosen profession.
