critter January 27, 2011, 06:00 AM Took my S&W 25-5, 8 3/8" to the range yesterday. You know, punching big ole holes right where they are supposed to be is very, very soothing.
Anybody else use shooting as a stress relief? Works!

Davek1977 January 27, 2011, 06:14 AM to be perfectly honest, there are days my wife tells me i NEED to go to the range. Some days, nothing can ease one's mind like destroying bullseyes or soda cans. One can make the argument that frearms shouldn't be handled wehn one is "upset" or "stressed" Quite frankly, that stress and frustration tends to leave about the same speed a bullet leaves the barrel of my rifle......after that first trigger squeeze, the report, and the smell of burnt powder fills my nostrils, all is right with the world again, at least for the time being.
critter January 27, 2011, 06:26 AM I think that concentrating on the sight picture and trigger pull blocks out ones ability to worry about insignificant stuff. Works for me.
AirForceShooter January 27, 2011, 06:45 AM I've always found the range relaxing.
For an hour or 2 everything in the world goes away.
Target, sight, trigger.
Very ZEN

bikerdoc January 27, 2011, 06:45 AM In my younger day a ride to the range on my motorcycle was all I needed.
You never will see a Bike or pickup with a rifle rack parked in front of a Psychiatrists office. :)
mcdonl January 27, 2011, 07:27 AM Oh yeah.... shooting is a good relief but for the everyday doldrums I like reloading too.
And of course, nothing like getting on my GW, cranking the tunes and hitting the winding back roads!
DasFriek January 27, 2011, 07:48 AM I planned a trip yesterday to the indoor range yesterday which is 2 hours round trip, Which i really don't mind. But passed it up as is i still felt weak from battling a migraine/headache issue the previous day.
So i went to my bedroom/work room and redid my back pocket holster with some new material i bought and decided to wait until today when i felt stronger.
The range is my therapy sessions, Idea hours and time to reflect about everything gun.
Without that at least 2x a month life gets boring and even depressing as it shooting makes me see whats important in my hobby and what i need to do next.
So to me its my valuim, Anti-depressant and fuel for my imagination.
How something that goes bang, bang, bang does all that i dont know, But it does.
Babarsac January 27, 2011, 12:42 PM My girlfriend had me take her to the NRA range before she had to go run a preforming arts conference in NYC. She had just gotten new glasses and did very well. :)
Ky Larry January 27, 2011, 04:58 PM Shooting is very relaxing and mentally soothing. I enjoy the concentration and mental focus. Very theraputic.
Water-Man January 27, 2011, 05:05 PM Stressed-out. Depressed. Migraines. Wow.
+1 on the Bike!
bannockburn January 27, 2011, 05:34 PM I think part of the overall enjoyment while shooting comes from wearing hearing protectors. It's like you're shutting out the rest of the world, and concentrating on something that you truly enjoy doing. Sort of like being on your own little tropical island of peace and tranquility; only this paradise has its own shooting range.
Lonestar49 January 30, 2011, 02:52 AM ...
It's pure "quality time" -
Nothing less, (unless a real-time need/use/event takes place) then it's a hard reality check..
Hopefully one that one can live with if one survives - both the BG/'s and the_courts.
Wouldn't leave home without it (the_quality time - insurance) ;)

Buck Snort January 30, 2011, 03:18 PM Nine out of the ten voices in my head are telling me to go to the range today!!
QUICK_DRAW_McGRAW January 30, 2011, 03:39 PM yes its always helped me. as does driving my fast cars, or motorcycles.
but there really is nothing like range time. its like being a kid again with my grandfather shooting for the first time every time i get there.
Hondo 60 January 30, 2011, 09:17 PM Amen - brothers & sisters!
