HB441 Seeks to ban 50 Cals., require a registration to buy ammo, and
prohibit disclosure of the reason an applicant was denied a permit.

The last point is one of the most disturbing items in this bill!

I don't know how many here is in Hawaii, but if you are, I suggest you start writing your legislators and start preparing testimony for the fight ahead!

I know Hawaii is on the small side, but sometimes the small guys need help too!
Our repressive gun laws need changing just like DC, Chicago, and Cali. Every Hawaii gun owner needs to stand together, or we WILL loose or rights!

A new stand alone bill requiring proof of registration for purchasing ammo.http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/session2011/lists/measure_indiv.aspx?billtype=HB&billnumber=834

So dumb. Has anyone ever committed a crime with a 50cal? They're too big to possibly hide to bring anywhere.

Exactly. The uselessness of these types of regulation serves only to infringe on the rights of law abiding citizens and waste tax payers money.

One other point is that there are only a very few places one can fire a big .50, not many own one, and most that do hardly fire them.

They should be spending time coming up with ideas on balancing the budget, instead of wasting time on pointless regulation.

If it involves regulations that YOU have to pay for, maybe that's one idea to balance the budget, on shooters shoulder...

Let's not get the thread locked based on our opinions of the POTUS, he is still the President and we should respect that.

Now back on topic, that seems like an odd bill. Are there that many regulations on other firearms/firearm calibers in Hawaii? I mean I knew they had more than there fair share of regulations, but having a permit to buy ammo seems ludicrous to me.

Thank You

The reason I started this thread is to try and change things.

In regards to regulation, as of yet there are no caliber restrictions here in law. There is gun registration requirements for all longguns and handguns. The bill will require a person to show proof of registered firearm, and only be able to purchase ammunition for those calibers.

Any type of 'assault pistol' is illegal here, as well as supressors, any automatic firearms, magazines over 10 rounds that can fit into any pistol (such as ar15's ak47's even though pistol versions cannot be obtained here legally), and some others that I can't think off the top of my head.

Also, There is a great fellow here trying to get a legal case together to our 'may issue' law as well. There will be stiff opposition.
I suspect these new anti-bills are a direct result of his drive to fight our current 'no' issue CCW laws

I think there's been progress regarding gun laws being the same across(in one way or another)in the USA. Maybe in time (I hope) the gun laws will greatly get more uniform.
And yes the politicians should be paying more attention to more serious issues than to come up with these foolish laws and proposals.

On the upside, I have heard there are shall issue bills in the works this session.
When the time is right, we hope to get support from as many people we can.

As far as I can see, No. It just wants to outlaw .50BMG.

But, That doesn't mean that they'll stop there, that recent drug bust that occurred in Ewa, that person had a ton of black powder collectibles! That person will give all good standing gun owning citizens a bad name, and I hope the antis don't realize that, and come out with more BS laws concerning black powder.
