I'm thinking specifically about a BK-7 and/or a BK-9 for hard, outdoor use.
Opinions?

For the price, they can't be beat. I have a BK-11 that I've used for some time now. The Becker line is very practical and I would give it a two thumbs up. The construction is very good for a knife in that price range. I'm a fan of carbons over stainless for nearly everything so I love the Becker line.

Very high value factor. Good quality steel, and hell for stout. Hard to beat.

The fact that the grips can be unbolted from the blade gives two features:
* Unusually thorough cleaning for food prep issues - too many outdoor/combat knives aren't sealed quite well enough at the grip and you end up with an unsterile situation. (True chef's knives ARE fully sealed).
* Once the grips are off, you have a really good spear blade. The holes in the blade where the bolts went are sized right for paracord, shoelace or the like.
No other outdoor knife I know of is quite like it.

I have the BK 7 which is ,at $50, a great value. A very rugged utility knife with excellent steel. It's always been highly praised.

I have had three, the Companion, the Combat and the cleaver or butcher knife style, whose name escapes me right now. I only kept the Companion, I really like this knife and it's much more useable for me than the larger models. Doubt it'll fail me in most situations. Inexpensive enpugh to replace w/o pain.;)

I have a Becker Combat/Utility 7. It's a great knife and an excellent value for the money. IIRC, I paid about $50 + shipping from The Cutlery Shoppe.

The BK7 is a best buy. Also have a look at the Becker necker.

Everyone on BladeForums likes them. I ordered one but haven't gotten it yet. Supposed to replace the Ka-Bar in popularity. We'll see.

I bought the Becker BK71 in August of last year. Its the same as the BK7 but in the Desert Camo colors.

With a Swamp Rat Howling Rat comming in the near future I decided I'd get the desert camo version. I like the black finish but I like my knives to look different as well.
Knifecenter.com has the Camo version for $54.95 and the standard black for $49.95 (+S&H of course).
