I see references to the A2 and A3 stock when it comes to fixed stocks. What are the lengths of each? Are there others that are CMP/NRA legal

Thanks,

Clutch

A1 length stock yields 1/2 inch shorter length of pull than A2. A3 I am not sure of that one. The only other stock I know of is a collapsible carbine stock.

I'm no expert on black rifles but doesn't the A2/A3 designation refer to the rear sight. A2 elevation only and A3 elevation and wind age adjustment? Looking to see replys from other members. Have to learn somehow. deadeye

I expect you were referring to A1 and A2 fixed stocks.

An M16A3 is identical to the M16A2 except for full auto fire instead of burst so it shares the A2 fixed stock. The M16A1 used the shorter A1 stock.

A3 (erroneously) and A4 refer to flat top upper receivers and A1 and A2 refer to integrated carry handle receivers.

My bad. A1 and A2.

Sorry for confusion,

Deadeye, the A1 rear sight has windage adjustments but no elevation, that's done at the front sight. The A2 integrated carry handle and A3/A4 removeable carry handle have windage and a ranging adjustment for elevation but the normal procedure is to zero for elevation with the front sight. Then you turn the carry handle's elevation knob to 4 for 400 meters, 5 for 500 and 6/3 (cranked out) for 600. Otherwise it's cranked back down to 6/3. The A2 actually goes to 800 (8/3).

A1 is shorter than A2. A2 and A3 are the same length

I would say "The A1 is shorter than A2. The M16A2 and M16A3 use the A2 length stock."

There is not a third A3 length.
