I bought the Burris 2.75X scout scope and want to mount it to my Marlin Guide Gun. I will use the XS System's scout mount to mount the scope forward of the receiver. I just don't know what rings to buy. Obviously, it's a weaver style mount, but what height of rings is recommended? Low, or Medium. The scope has a 1" diameter tube.

Thanks.

This scope will accept low rings and the scout concept demands a low scope mounting!

I have Leupold LOW QRW rings on my GG. No problems at all.
That reminds me, I need to go shoot it!!

I have the same as J Scott, great set up. I have posted a picture of it on this site already so It wont let me post twice.
It is a VERY predictable set up. I can hit a 8" plate at 200 yds, take it off hit it with open sights then put the scope back on at it's still on.

Happy new year!

I have the same scope, and mount on my Marlin 444 and also have the Leupold LOW QRW rings so I can use my AO ghost ring sights.

Check out Brockman's Custom Rifles' (http://www.brockmansrifles.com/lever_action.asp) lever action work. Under the "Customization" link, you'll find prices for installing his base and rings. Expensive, but the best I've seen in the field, and definitely tougher than the Express Sights system. (I've used rifles with both, and have the Express system on a .30-30 at the moment: but I'm definitely saving up to have Brockman put his system on my .45-70's!).

The scout configuration cries out for the most compact optical sighting setup possible. When Elder Son birthday gifted me an 1895GS last May, I was determined to use the ghost ring iron (aluminum??) sights. When a friend gave me a set of the AO sights, he included the AO Lever Scout mount.

I got to looking and the utility and apparent strength were fascinating. I also wanted to do some load workup, and at my advanced age, I am simply not as precise with iron sights as I once was. Robbed the Leupold Scout Scope off my Savage .308 and installed it on my Marlin. The Leupold low mount rings already in place worked just fine.

Hey, this is GREAT! After working up a suitable load with Speer 400 JSP and 3031 powder, I was barely able to force myself to remove the scope. I can hit pretty well with the ghost ring sights, and they are more in keeping with the truly rugged nature of the big carbine, but I could certainly be happy with the Lever Scout optical setup . . . .

Best,
Johnny
