I'm looking for a good smith (not Hamilton Bowen--I'd like not to wait a year ;) ) to do some minor work on a revolver cylinder. Work would entail chamfering the chambers and some cosmetic work on the exterior.

Anybody pop to mind?

Try Cylinder and Slide in Nebraska.

There are several, but for this, I can recommend Fletcher (http://www.fletchercustompistols.com/). Great work, good turnaround and good to deal with.

Locally, I read good things about Jeff Walle (http://www.gunsandleather.com/home.cfm), in Hendersonville, TN.

BTW, as long as the cylinder's out, consider also having the throats checked to be sure they're all in spec.

Check Deitrich Gunsmithy in Otis, ME http://dietrichgunsmithy.com. They've done quite a bit of work for me, including more aggressively chamfering the charge holes and take the sharp edge off the front of the cylinder on my 586 L-Comp with a slight bevel. I also had them polish the hammer and trigger and parkerize the gun, it came out just the way I wanted it. Their rates are reasonable as are their turn around times.

Although I would not use him for such and don't even know if he would do the job, Bowen's turnaround is actually among the lowest in the industry. He has a team of gunsmiths working for him and his caliber conversions are going out in record time, just 3-4months.

I would probably send it to Jim Stroh of Alpha Precision or Bob Cogan of Accurate Plating & Weaponry.

Thanks! They are Nill grips, don't know the model number. I got them off of ebay, about $90 IIRC.

Looking forward to it. What mods, other than the chamfering, did you have in mind?
