I have a Springfield XD Tactical. The finish on this gun has held up well for me, it is basicly flawless. The top and sides of my chamber are really starting to look bad though. It really takes away from the appearance of the gun. I dislike it soo much, I am considering sending entire gun to Tripps for a cobrachrome finish. Is there any alternative to the $150.00 refinishing of entire gun, that will allow me to keep original finish, along with keeping the outside part of chamber black as well? I have a feeling your gonna tell me its is something I will havew to live with!

Honest wear marks; live with it.

Or have a hard-type finish applied, and watch wear marks appear on it.

No, you don’t have to have the pistol refinished if your only concern is the marks that show on the top/side of the barrel inside the slide’s ejection port. At the most, (and this is questionable) all that's needed it to have the barrel refinished.

You can remove the marks by polishing the area you’re worried about using #320 and then #400 emery cloth or paper (available at most hardware stores). Cut a strip about 2” wide and use it to “shoeshine” the breech end of barrel while it’s lightly clamped in a vise. But be aware the marks will eventually come back and repeated polishing may effect the pistol’s accuracy. A hard-chrome finish may help, but will not eliminate the problem.

What those marks really mean is that you have a tight barrel-slide fit, and that's good.
