i want to get the cimmaron model p .45. i just cant figure this, common sense tells me the 7.5 inch barreld "calvary" model is more accurate. but thats if i can hold the barrel steady. me and a friend have shot bottles out of the air and made them dance around at 100 yards with my ruger singel six wich is lighter and has a 5.5 inch barrel. a have two bp revolvers with 7.5 inch barrels and i cant hold them quite as perfectly still as i can hold that little ruger. i need some experienced advise- will the shorter barrel and the ability to hold slightly stiller compensate for not having a longer barrel and longer distance between sights and be more accurate? i dont need to be fast on the draw or anything this gun is not for sass.
- also how much powder is burned in acess by having a two inch shorter barrel? (bullet velocity lost?)

If you can't hold it steady, the longer barrel isn't going to be more accurate for you.

Sounds to me like you'd be better off with the shorter barrel.

The difference in velocity isn't going to matter much if you're shooting tin cans.

It is easier, within limits) to hold a heavier revolver steady than it is a lighter one. If you are steady with the Ruger, you will be steady with any of the SAA barrel lengths. Any perceived differences in accuracy will be as a result of the longer sighting radius afforded by the longer barrel. But the 4.75 barrel will be just as accurate as a 7.5 barrel.

I have SAA's in all three standard barrel lengths. And I do a lot of 100 yard shooting with them. The .45 Colt has a good bit of drop at that range, and your revolver may or may not shoot to POA even at 25 yards. Moreover, the sights are less than great. So regardless of your skill level, you aren't likely to endanger a bottle much at 100 yards with a SA .45. A five gallon can will make a better target.
