In the process of reassembling a Beretta A390 after a thorough clean/oil, I cannot seem to sucessfully reassemble the barrel/gas system without the barrel reciprocating about a half inch, almost like it were an A5, which it is most distinctly not. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how I'm reassembling this thing incorrectly, despite having stared at the exploded diagram for some time.

Is the bolt back when you re reassembling?

Are you trying to put it back together with the gas piston turned around backwards?

Not according to the prints. And even so, the spring that's retained inside the piston should act against the barrel being pushed forward by the bolt/recoil spring.

You're a prince. Just going off of the exploded diagram, it looked like the valve and valve spring sat inside the piston. Set it on top of the barrel assembly, put the cap back on, and la-dee-da. Thanks for the assist.

Glad I could help. When I took mine home from the store, the piston had been installed upside down. Took me an hour to figure out what was wrong, but I figured it out before going back to the store fortunately.
