Some of my initial thoughts...

The factory mag locks in fine but there is side to side mag wobble once in. The polymer 'bullet mag' that the dealer sold me would not fit in the magwell without 30 seconds of adjusting with a file. It fits nice and snug now-no wobble. The Bulgarian metal mags from Aim Surplus fit fine. Still some wobble but only about half of what the factory polymer mag had.

The barrel is not much bigger in outer dimensions from a 5.56 model except the flared part at the end seems noticeably bigger.

It isn't any more nose heavy than the 5.56 models.

SIG really disappointed me with this rifle when it was out in the 5.56 only. Cheap plastic furniture and ignored the heritage of the rifle by slapping pic rails all over it. Even their advertising called it a "SIG 556 AR-rifle" (what the heck is that?).

The Classic type furniture is finally a step in the right direction. The 7.62 Commie chambering finally is enough to make me want to buy one.

I ended up selling my Sig 556 in .223 a couple weeks ago when I found out there was going to be a Sig in 7.62x39. I went into my local shop to inquire about getting one earlier this week and the shop manager said he already had one coming in within the next few days and said he'd hold it for me when it came in. He swore it would be here by Friday but it didn't show so I'm hoping it will be here by early next week.

I have never been a fan of anything Sig but this has really caught my eye. I'm a huge fan of the 7.62x39 cartridge but have become increasingly frustrated with the AK clone junk in the market. A couple of questions though...

Where are the iron sights? The front sight looks like it has to be dovetailed. Who makes something that fits and what does it cost? It looks like the rifles are selling for under $1000 but I expect good iron sights will be a significant cost.

How good is the trigger?

How easy is this thing to field strip?

Does the Sig 556 still have any QC issues?
