Personally, I like a dot up front and a plain black rear sight. When using my CZ75BD for IDPA, I found that under pressure I would sometimes confuse one of the two rear dots for the front dot. After taking a permanent black marker to the two rear dots, sight accusition is much faster and surer (I'm thinking about doing this on my Glock 26 also). Has anyone else found this to be true, and what do you like on your guns?

I realy like the Big Dot Tritium set up from XSpress sights. The back sight is a V with a trititum post terminating in the point of the V. I have these on both my Kimber Ultra Carry and my Springfield XD40. I can aquire the sight and target much quicker and my accuracy has drastically improved since installing these sights.

Three dot night sights ... two green in the back and one red in the front -- line up all three dots in a row with the red one in the middle and you're set to go.

Well, since most of mine are just as they came from the factory, I guess I prefer plain old fixed iron sights. I don't foresee a significant need to throw a shot much more than 15 yards with a handgun - and the ones I've got seem to do that just fine. I've experimented with "dot" sights and painted front ramps - but I can't say they really helped make me any better shot.

Perception is reality though. If you think they work for you, go for the extras. In my experience (and it's just MY experience), better accuracy at longer range is achieved with heavier framed and longer barreled handguns - not different sights.

I prefer 3 dot sights, and I like my night sights to be all green.

Standard Glock sights work well for me too, but I still prefer 3 dots.

I liked 3-dot, but lately been shooting the Von Stavenhagen (bar-dot) system a lot faster...easier for me to shoot this way both eyes open.

But, not the front/rear green ones.. I find them to be a little blury and would rather have multi colored ones, say red front/rear green or blue/and yellow ones for the color contrast.. :)

For semi-auto's, I prefer the standard bar- dot combination
as found on the SIG-Sauer/SIGARMS handguns.

But, on revolver's I have no problems with the standard
Smith & Wesson red-ramp front sight, with the white out
lined rear sight.

I guess its just a matter of preference for most folk's; but
I've been using both types of sight's for year's, and I see
no need to change.

Night sight's? I have absolutely 0 tolerance for any and all
brand's of night sight's. Cuz, faced with a defensive situation
during night time hour's, you aren't going to have time to
acquire proper sight alignment anyway!:what: :rolleyes:

Three dots for me.

I colored the front sight of my USP with bright orange paint to distinguish it better from the rear dots.

Works very well for me!!! :D:D:D

I prefer just plain ol' black sights. I've had all kinds of combos and wound up blacking out all that stuff, or changing sights to plain. It is just easier for me to pick up with my eyes. Also, I have found when I have any dots, bars, stars of whatever on my sights, I lose some fine accuracy since my eyes are distracted from sight alignment. You have to remember, the smaller the post and notch or apperture, the smaller the group. Big partridge sights make sense on a combat handgun, but I try to go with a slim front post to allow that daylight in the rear notch for good alignment. I do like the tritium on a packing gun, it helps with getting the muzzle on target quickly in the dark. I don't think one would ever really need to aim much in a night defensive scenario, it is almost always less than 10 feet.

Current preference is w/ a fixed, 3-dot night sight like Trijicons. Quick, clear, durable & not too expensive.

Three dots is my preference for fast shooting. I really like the bright front dot (Williams Firesight) and stock white outline rear sight on my Redhawk for more deliberate, precise shooting.

When I took a low light handgun course with my Glock 19 and three dot tritiums I noticed that I couldn't line them up for fast firing with both eyes open (it looked a bunch of dots floating out there). When I started shooting SIGs I really liked their bar dot white pattern and wanted that in a night sight so I ended up with MMC bar dot night sights. They are much easier to use with both eyes open. In bright light, all you see is the white circle around the front tritium dot.

Either black target sights (ala S&W revolver sights) or front dot/rear box sights. As long as the front sight is easy to see, I'm happy :D

I prefer plain black Novac's on My 1911's and S&W's red ramp/white outline on My revolvers.All other firearms I just use what came on them.tom.

I have converted my Colt 1991A1 over with the white U rear and painted the front sight red. I think Glock has the best standards sights. I don't own a Glock but I shoot them better than most guns just because I naturally acquire targets faster with the U sights. But I'm not a very skilled shooter.

The best sights I've used are the sights on my Dan Wesson Pointman Major.

The rear is a Millett white-outline, which is difficult to describe so here's a pic of its pattern:

The front is a HUGE white dot (which I painted yellow). The weird thing is, the front dot doesn't fit all the way into the rear white outline, the way Glock sights do. The front only fits halfway into the rear notch, so that a horizontal line through the dot lines up with the horizontal "wings" on the white-outline pattern. It's essentially like having a Bomar bar-dot-bar pattern AND a SIG vertical bar-dot pattern in the same sight, AND it's adjustable!

I was very skeptical at first, but with a bit of practice I'm now more confident with this sight picture than any other, for precision AND speed.

I like 3 dot's on semiauto's and red/orange and white outline on revolvers.On fixed sight revolvers i go with a colored insert front and i blackout the rear notch if it's stainless.

I haven't had the money lately to personally investigate :(.

That said, two companies so far are talking about how we can line things up on the vertical plane faster versus horizontal. Heinie uses the "straight eight" with one dot above the other, and Ashley's version with a vertical tritium bar topped by the front dot.

I'll probably go with the Ashley double-tritium setup (what they call the "Pro series".

Plain black square notch for the back sight. Some daylight should be visible on either side of the front blade when sights aligned.

Be they Bo-Mars, Novaks, Bancrofts, or the like, they've served me well in their non-painted/dotted/barred/trapezoidal configuration.

I don't believe this. I thought I was the most hard-headed and opinionated person on the planet, yet....

No preference. I use them all and don't have a problem with any other than the obvious need for night sights in the dark.

Heinie Slant pro rear sight and fiber optic front on my 1911's. Fastest for these old eyes.

For long range, I like the stock Ruger adjustable target sights (like on the Super Blackhawk).

I MUCH prefer the VonStavenhaugen "dot-the-i" sights like the Sig and Kahr have. I always thought I was a 3-dot guy until I bought my first Kahr. It was just plain ole easier to shoot accurately with the line and the dot, rather than trying to balance 3 dots together. I'm far sighted, so the easier you make my visual effort up close, the better I do. The more I shoot my Kahrs, the less I like the other sights...

Unfortunately, nobody makes those for other pistols. If they did, all my pistols would have them.

And no, I don't quite consider the XS sights the same thing, although they are similar. With the Sig style sights, you still have the more traditional notch and post sight picture. And for me, the rear line is too narrow and the front dot is too big on the XS sights.

I tried the XS sights on a Glock 29 once, but wasn't crazy about them. Maybe standard dot... who knows.

My second choice is the "other" type of bar-dot, where the bar in the rear is horizontal. It's a little harder to line up, but still better than the 3 dots. All those dots is just too crowded for me.

definitely the bar-dot, very fast acquisition and easier to get your sight alignment translating to greater accuracy.

Next best is plain rear sights with <your colour> dot front sight.

My favorite right now is a plain black Novak rear and a Trijicon front. Have it on my Beretta, but would like to try it on my P7.

I agree with all those who prefer plain black handgun iron sights, both front and rear. I carry a permanent black marker in my shooting bag, to blacken all of mine. :D

White or colored sights reduce contrast for me, and in turn reduce visual definition.

Night sights for concealed carry may be another story, but I've never had a real need for them, as I don't carry.

I like the red ramp front sight/and white outline rear sight found on S & W revolvers and some of their autos best. It works for me when target shooting to quickly line up the sights on the target.
