My (new to me) Mosin Nagant M38

So, out of curiosity and slight boredom I attended a local gun show. I told myself that I wouldn't after the last three I went to were bland and over priced but I was looking for some small parts for a couple of guns I was finishing/upgrading. After doing my normal sweep I noticed a table in the back of the civic center inhabited by an old man with a table full of various old guns, some beaten and scarred from time. In the middle of the table sat a ,not so bad looking Nagant. It caught my eye due to it not being 12ft long. Sure enough it was a matching M38. I have 2 91/30s and like them other than the length. My wife noticed it due to it having "the patina" look she likes. The stock looks as if it was laquered at some point. Since I've had an infatuation with the Nagant and its various models I started looking at the normal things, matching serial numbers, arsenal marks, etc. The old man walked up and said $150. I figured since it wasn't beaten too bad and the fact that it was a M38 that I would buy it. I got it home and cleaned it up a bit with the help of my Dremal tool and a stainless wire attachment. I noticed the end of the barrel hadn't been counter bored. All in all I like it and am going to enjoy shooting it as much as my other two.

Nice find. I don't have an M38 but I love my M44.

I also love my M44 a great deal. I love shooting the carbine over the full 91/30, even though it has more kick, because of the much louder report and the six foot gout of unholy flame that shoots out of it. You definitely got a good deal.

What a deal. I paid $150 for my M-44, and it is so much more satisfying to shoot than my 91/30

I took her our shooting last Friday. She's a feisty one. I was shooting at the bottom of a beer bucket at around 100yrds with great succession. She was dead on. The only problem I see is that she sits a little bit lose in the stock and the front stock bolt is stripped a bit. Both which are easy fixes. My buddy, which makes fun of my rifle was silenced when I put a hold directly through a pine tree that was about 13in thick.

..... if anyone still checks on this thread. Last week I ordered a pillar bedding kit and hardened Allen socket action screws for my M38 from rocksolidind.com. shipping was only $4. The parts should be in this week some time. I'm looking forward to the barrel assembly not being lose in the stock. This also fixes my stripped front action screw problem. It only had about 2 threads on the end. Either way, if I can ever figure out how to upload pics from my phone to this thread I'll post them.
