Looking for a recommendation on a good firearm ballistics book.

Looking to really learn the nitty/gritty science behind it.

Rinker or Litz?

And on another topic....

Anyone read/own Plasters Ultimate Sniper? Curious as to where people think it rates as a technical manual for snipers and long range shooters. Is it grade A beef or a cold can of Spam?

Get both. I'm partial to Rinker, but I've not seen Litz. I'll get it when I do.

Plaster's book (and video) are interesting and cover much of the basics. If you know little about firearm shooting for accuracy, they are fine. As I recall (haven't looked at either for a good many years), there is nothing about the fine points of windage, shooting up or down grades, etc.

You can get a quick and handy iPhone app for the latter, if you are interested. It's called "Let it Fly," I think.

Put in your caliber of ammo, wind, angle of shot, distance, and get bullet drop and drift quite quickly. Most all standard ammo is pre-programmed, and you can enter ballistic data for any other cartridges or handloads.

I like Rinker. Have not read Plaster's book.

Plaster's book is good. My understanding is that some in the sniper community (meaning actual & former police/military snipers) disagree with some of it, but generally seem to agree it's one of the few good technical books on the subject. Another good one is by Mike Lau, The Military & Police Sniper.

Interior ballistics, exterior ballistics, or terminal ballistics?
