Have Smith and Colt .44's, all shoot great with 180 gr wad cutters (Gardners) to 320 grainers. Question is-- what is the deal with S&W 1917 & 25-5 (45COLT) that only shoot 230 gr very well but scatter 255-300-355 gr like a shotgun?

Here is a good starting point for what barrel twist means.http://stevespages.com/page8e.htm

I know what twist is, I just find it strange that multiple brand 44's shoot almost all bullet weights well and S&W picks a rate that will only shoot 230 and less grain lead very well. Ruger Vaquero's I have will shoot 185 to 350 gr swc like nobody's business. Why would S&W use a twist rate that only shoots 1/2 the bullet weight available worth a crap, especially in 45 Colt?
