How often should you check the functionality of the leaf spring, and how do you perform your safety checks?

Leaf spring? Are you referring to the three pronged sear spring?
Safety checks are done after every cleaning - it only takes a minute.

I have a 60+ year old 1911A1 that works fine. Most of the 1911A1's parts will outlast the current owner and maybe even the next.

Have several 1911's and have yet to experience any mainspring problems with any of them.

Springs are cheap. Change 'em often. Cheap insurance.
