I recently bought my second Taurus 738 as I was very pleased with it's reliability and it's excellent CCW factor. The first one I bought for my wife was from Academy Sports Hoover, AL. less than a year ago. This is absolutely no reflection on the store, they have excellent customer service and the best prices. Today I was going to take mine out and test it and while loading the gun I noticed it failed to chamber properly (stovepipe) because of the "loading or feed ramp" being deformed. To clarify, I could not even load the gun because it would not chamber. I'm pretty sure the ramps are formed in a cnc machine because I noticed every Taurus tcp 738 at Academy this week had the exact same ramp defect. The ramps would match when lined up side by side. My conclusion is they are a bad batch and they weren't inspected for sure:mad:. Well, lesson learned here is I got lucky that they have an excellent warranty but wonder had it been another brand. I will never by another gun without a very good warranty that is transferable ("follows") the gun. This is not an endorsement of Taurus as I feel they should get it right the first time. My wife's feed ramp :D is machined perfectly. This gun has been a money maker for them and I guess with the ramping up of production you loose quality control.

Hi. I just bought the TCP today and seem to be having the same problem. When I pull the slide back to chamber the first round, it jams and will not load. Have you talked to Taurus? If so, what did they say? Thanks

Taurus is hit and miss. I was at the gun store when a guy brought back his newly aquired never fired TCP that he purchased for SD. It seems he couldn't get it to feed at all. The store owner verified it and even took another mag from the one on the shelf. No matter what he tried it would not feed a round into the chamber.

The store owner took it in the back and proceeded to bend and massage the lips of the mag until the gun would take a round. He was concerned enough for the cust. safety that he offered him the choice of keeping the TCP, giving the guy a refund for his full purchase price or trading it in for something else. The guy decided he couldn't trust it as a CCW and decided to trade it in for something different.

The store owner is a stand up guy that really cares for and takes care of his customers. He revealed to me a number of problems he has had with the Taurus lineup. Everything from revolvers to semi autos has experienced various diff. problems.

All one needs to do is go on any gun forum and look around. It seems that there is a posting almost every week of someone having a problem with their Taurus. Plus, I'm old enough (52) to remember when Taurus was considered one of the worst guns on the market. To each their own but this is enough for me to avoid them as a CCW.
