I am looking to get a DA .22 revolver. Yesterday I got to handle a used Tracker 970 for $375 (on consignment, and way too expensive for the condition it is in). Anyway, does anyone have any experience with this gun? How does it compare to the Taurus 94? Any input on these two guns would be helpful. Thanks.

Never fired a Tracker. I have fired a Taurus 94 with a 4" barrel, and it did seem like a very accurate little .22 revolver. It was easy to load, seemed very reliable for the two hundred or so rounds I put through it. Single action trigger pull wasn't too bad, but double action was very heavy, and not the smoothest thing in the world. If you're close, like, 7-15 yds, you probably won't have any problem, but beyond that, in DA, you're going to have a tough time. I have big hands, and did not find the small grip and frame of the Taurus 94 uncomfortable, though it is definitely smaller than a Tracker, which you probably already knew.

Hopefully that will give you some idea of what the 94 is like, in case you haven't handled/fired one.

$375.00 is way too much for a used 970. I bought the wife a new 990 last year for that. We looked at the 94 but decided it was too small. She (and I) like the 990/970 size much better. Good midsized revolver. Very accurate.

I've owned a handful of M94s over the years and currently own a 970 Tracker. The M94s, due to the nature of the size and design, have heavy DA trigger pulls. With use over time the pull gets smoother and seems to lighten a little but it's always going to be on the heavier side. The 970 has a much lighter trigger pull than the M94 and the grips fit my hands a bit better too. Ultimately while I do like the M94s I like the 970 better.

Hope this isn't too late. Here's the story on the 94 and the 970.

I do own a 94. It's an understudy gun for my .357 magnum/ .38 Special, and 44 Special Taurus revolvers.

Anything I was going to add is already in the links.

Ive owned a tracker in 17hmr, got it when it first came out, or at least shortly after.
It was a fairly accurate gun, nothing so great that I needed to keep it around but good enough for plinking etc.

The optics mounting system is actually pretty slick, fits nice and pretty simple to install if you ever wanted an optic.

I sold it years ago to someone who wanted it more than me, I havent really missed it.

Last year I came across a .22 mag 941, It was new and VERY cheap, It so far is Very accurate, but does have some quirks, It wont reliably fire certain ammo while DA, but will in SA, dont know why, and atm cant remember the ammo brand sorry, but I just dont use it, and it works fine so far!

I havent heard of as many problems with the trackers as I have the 94/941 if that makes any difference.

Good luck
