Looked at a SP101 today. Really like the feel and looks. I wanted something in blue however. Hammer-less is good also. I like the looks of the LCR but grip is too small. I want something near or less than the size/weight of the SP101 about 25oz. for occasional CCW and nightstand use. Doesn't have to be .357, a .38sp would be fine. I prefer to stick with a wheelgun, as I have a smaller semi-auto 9mm

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks

I think S&W is making a 3" 640. (.357, enclosed hammer).

SP101 can be had with a bobbed hammer.
If you really like the SP101, many refinishers can apply a blue like finish to a stainless revolver. And most will likely be more resistant to wear than an actual blue finish.

Taurus offers a blued 605 with a 3-in. barrel. This is a .357. They also have a model 85, .38 special, with a blued finish and 2.5-in barrel. Bobbed hammer versions are available also.

If you don't mind a used gun that will be, at a minimum, 25 years old, this has Colt Detective Special written all over it.

Hammer-less is good also.I just bought a .357 SP101 with a bobbed hammer (close to hammer-less). It was between that and the LCR. I really like looks of the LCR, but aside from being MUCH lighter, it felt a bit cheap to me. I have shot both, and the SP101 is far easier to control with hot loads than the LCR. My point is that looks aside, the SP101 wins in my book.

There is no replacement for mass in controllability.

These "Recommend me a gun" threads would run a lot better if the OP would state how much he is willing to spend.

Charter Arms has a few models that might fit the bill: Mag Pug, Bulldog, Police Undercover, Patriot. (Those are in 5-shot .357 mag, 5-shot .44 spl, 6-shot .38 spl, and 6-shot .327 mag, respectively.) Worth a look-see if you're on a budget.

If you really like the SP101 they do come with a bobbed hammer and you can send the gun to someone like Robbie Robar who does an excellent job of coating weapons.

I like my two J frames in 357, 60,640 and I do own a 3 inch SP 101 in 357 mag too. All are great guns.

There honestly is no alternative.

S&W Model 13 or 19 snubnose with round butt. Model 13 has fixed sights and 19 has adjustable. Both are .357.

There honestly is no alternative. In my very limited revolver experience, I must agree. I ran about 100 rounds through the new SP101 last weekend. I'm very happy with it, especially when compared to the LCR I shot a while back. The weight makes it a pleasure to shoot, and the quality feels much nicer than the LCR as well. Thanks to everyone for steering me (and especially my wife) towards the 101.
