Another awesome day at the range. Not only did I get to review the Thunder Ranch Model 22 my daughter tagged along for some 22lr shooting.

The model 22 is a nice one, I should have gotten one myself. I used to be a big fan of the .44 Spl but that round is dying as quickly as the .41 Mag.

At least ammo is available in .45 acp at reasonable cost making it the far better choice over the Spl.

If you go to gunbroker.com and use "44 special" or "41 magnum" as search criteria, there seem to be no shortage of guns, ammunition, bullets, brass for these calibers. While retail store availability of these calibers is limited and expensive (if you can even find them), the handloader community and the internet market will keep these calibers alive and well. Smith and Wesson introduced the 22-4 because the 21-4 sold well. Ruger finally brought out the Blackhawk and Vaquero in .44 special and will have at least the Blackhawk as a regular catalog item. Charter Arms seems to still be making .44 specials.

Dying quickly? Not happening now or anytime soon.

+1 As long as there are components with which to handload .44 magnum ammo there will be plenty of folks loading .44 Spl. These same handloaders will also keep the .41 Rem. alive simply because it is so good. But if you're limited to factory only offerings you're choices will be limited to the marketing choices of the manufacturers.

Georgia Ammunition sells a very reasonably priced, low velocity/recoil 41Mag load (880fps) for plinking or range use. Ditto for the 44. Dave
